Quincy Jones wrote some incredible arrangements on very popular tunes for the Count Basie Orchestra. As recorded on This Time By Basie, Quincy's arrangement of I Left My Heart in San Francisco features great interplay between the ensemble playing the melody, and the piano with written solo fills. With a tempo around 108 bpm, and a relaxed swing feel, there's also short solo space for tenor saxophone, and the ranges are very moderate. This chart is playable by a lot of bands. It's a true classic! Highly recommended! 10368506 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 55.00 Moon River—Henry Mancini/arr. Billy Byers. As recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on their album This Time by Basie, Billy Byers arranged a wonderful, easy- swinging masterpiece. Cleverly, he set this Mancini classic in 4/4 to accommodate the Basie band's iconic style. This is a terrific big band chart that belongs in every library right alongside I Can't Stop Loving You, Nice 'n Easy and I Left My Heart in San Francisco. There's space for a trumpet solo, and the ensemble writing is quite playable by most bands. This is oh, so nice and highly recommended! 10530081 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 55.00 H Moten Swing—Buster & Benny Moten/ arr. Ernie Wilkins. There have been a lot of published charts on this great Ernie Wilkins arrangement, but this is the original version as played and recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra. Moten Swing is possibly the most played piece of music by the Basie band and has been recorded countless times, making it a must-have for any band's library as it exemplifies wonderful roaring ensemble passages with soft, soft sections which will make your band sparkle. This new Finale edition includes a transcribed piano solo throughout, detailed rhythm section parts which are written except during the solos, and clearer, cleaner, more complete parts. Additionally, there is solo space for tenor saxophone, trumpet and piano. 2387306 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 60.00 Nice 'n' Easy—arr. Quincy Jones. As recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on their album This Time By Basie, this Quincy Jones chart is a laid-back, swingin' masterpiece. It's a wonderful, classic big band chart that belongs in every library right along side I Can't Stop Lovin' You and I Left My Heart in San Francisco. There is space for a trumpet solo, and the ensemble writing is quite playable by most bands. You can't go wrong with this exceptional chart on Nice 'n' Easy! 10455874 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 55.00 l Rabble Rouser—Billy Byers. The Count Basie Orchestra has been doing "barn burner" charts better than almost any other big band. This Billy Byers original starts out hot and never cools down. The tenor saxophone is the chosen soloist, and the full ensemble writing just keeps on keepin' on. Talk about lifting your audience out of their chairs - Wow! This one will do it. 11202780 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . A 55.00 4 That's All—Haymes & Brandt/arr. Billy Byers. As recorded on Basie Picks the Winners, this wonderful Billy Byers chart takes the lovely standard into a whole new world. There is a bit of flute to be played by your first tenor, a trumpet and piano solo, and there is some exquisite writing creating great shout choruses and subtle voicing for the band. With moderate ranges for all, you will love this one! 11202781 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . M 55.00 4 Yuriko—Billy Byers. This is a quintessential original chart for the Count Basie Orchestra. Originally recorded on Basie Land, the easy swing feel and tempo make this piece very accessible to most bands. There is a bit of flute in two saxophone parts. There are solos for tenor, trumpet, and piano. Of course there is the required masterful shout chorus that leads to a quiet, cool ending.
