Baker. This is a swinger all the way! The tempo can
be anywhere between 132 - 150 bpm and there is
a written trumpet 2 solo. There's plenty of swingin'
ensemble, a great sax section soli plus optional
parts for flute, clarinet, vibes, horn, baritone horn,
and tuba. Add in trumpet plungers and sliding
trombones and it's all great stuff!

chart should be in every young band's library! Neal
Hefti's famous tune is the quintessential slow swing
ballad in the Basie style, and every jazzer should be
familiar with it. In this superb edition, the arranger
has changed the key and reorchestrated the parts
so it is playable by ensembles at any ability level,
and with reduced instrumentation as well. The
notes are easy, but there's more music here than
in many more difficult charts. If your students play
only a handful of jazz tunes in their life, this should
be one of them.

Quincy Jones wrote some incredible arrangements on
very popular tunes for the Count Basie Orchestra. As
recorded on This Time By Basie, Quincy's arrangement of
I Left My Heart in San Francisco features great interplay
between the ensemble playing the melody, and the piano
with written solo fills. With a tempo around 108 bpm,
and a relaxed swing feel, there's also short solo space
for tenor saxophone, and the ranges are very moderate.
This chart is playable by a lot of bands. It's a true classic!
Highly recommended!

This Time by Basie, Billy Byers arranged a wonderful, easy-
swinging masterpiece. Cleverly, he set this Mancini classic
in 4/4 to accommodate the Basie band's iconic style. This
is a terrific big band chart that belongs in every library right
alongside I Can't Stop Loving You, Nice 'n Easy and I Left
My Heart in San Francisco. There's space for a trumpet
solo, and the ensemble writing is quite playable by most
bands. This is oh, so nice and highly recommended!

arr. Ernie Wilkins. There have been a lot of published
charts on this great Ernie Wilkins arrangement, but this
is the original version as played and recorded by the
Count Basie Orchestra. Moten Swing is possibly the
most played piece of music by the Basie band and has
been recorded countless times, making it a must-have
for any band's library as it exemplifies wonderful roaring
ensemble passages with soft, soft sections which will
make your band sparkle. This new Finale edition includes a
transcribed piano solo throughout, detailed rhythm section
parts which are written except during the solos, and
clearer, cleaner, more complete parts. Additionally, there is
solo space for tenor saxophone, trumpet and piano.

chart for the Count Basie Orchestra. Originally recorded
on Basie Land, the easy swing feel and tempo make this

and piano. Of course there is the required masterful shout
chorus that leads to a quiet, cool ending. The ranges make
this a very accessible chart for developed bands.
