Victor Lopez, who knows the Latin idiom inside and out, has given us a powerhouse 6/8 Latin chart that will make your ensemble sound like the Kenton Band. It's majestic, powerful and noble and includes written solo space for tenor sax and an optional Latin percussion part. Optional parts are included for flute, horn in F, baritone/tenor sax and tuba. This is a "must-have" chart with pure excitement from beginning to end! 10049728 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . .MA 52.00 Legend of the One-Eyed Sailor—Chuck Mangione/arr. Dallas Burke. This epic Latin/rock tune by Chuck Mangione is the perfect break from swing charts in concert or contest performances. After the opening statement, this chart features a written trumpet or flugelhorn solo on the original melody followed by a written or improvised trumpet solo. There's also room for the drums to get their fills in between some big ensemble hits before another solo section featuring written or improvised alto or trumpet solos. This chart builds to a fiery close that is sure to get everyone on their feet! 10881470 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . .MA 65.00 Malaguena—Ernesto Lecuona/arr. Dallas Burke. This epic treatment of the Latin classic makes a killer chart for experienced jazzers. From the understated opening Latin groove, this chart quickly builds to a powerful and eloquent musical statement. Next, there's an infectious Latin groove in the rhythm section to set up a new tempo, followed by a written or improvised tenor sax solo featuring some smokin' background licks. Then the chart cools off into another smoldering section before speeding up all the way to the end for a massive powerhouse finish. There's lots of room for strong brass sections to really blow, and the lead trumpet part's highest note is a D. Here's the centerpiece for a concert or festival program! 11000484 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . .MA 65.00 Mokopuni Magic (Island Magic)—Mark Taylor. Reminiscent of the music Mark Taylor wrote for the Stan Kenton Orchestra, this fiery showpiece features a churning Afro-Cuban groove alternating with sections in swing. Small group scoring is contrasted with full ensemble passages, and you'll need a few additional percussionists to fill out the Latin sound! Solo space is included for alto saxophone and guitar. 11100131 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . .MA 60.00 4 Muy Caliente—Erik Sherburne. This is a challenging samba for the more advanced jazz ensemble. From the beginning, you will engage your audience with the Latin groove and writing for winds. There are solos for alto, tenor, trumpet, and trombone for you to highlight some of your best players. There are also some moments for your drummer to shine. Have fun with this one! 11206082 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . .MA 50.00 l Na Proxima Vida (In the Next Life)—Michele Fernandez. This original Brazilian samba captures the authenticity of the style and brings to life the drive and excitement of the culture from which it originates. This is a true flavor of South America! 11199923 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . .MA 70.00 H A Night in Tunisia—Gillespie & Paparelli/arr. Michael Mossman. As performed by Kris Berg & The Metroplexity Big Band from This Time/Last Year featuring Wayne Bergeron on an aggressive, high-energy Afro-Cuban romp! This chart grabs your attention from the very beginning as it weaves its way through modal sections of heavy Latin groovin'! Great showstopper! 11205842 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . A 65.00 Ponteio—arr. Eric Richards. This Brazilian favorite from the 1960s has been recorded by a variety of artists including composer Edu Lobo, Astrud Gilberto, Sergio Mendez, and Woody Herman. The appealing style lends itself here to a masterful treatment for full jazz ensemble by Eric Richards. The flowing melody moves seamlessly from section to section supported by the infectious groove. The solo space is open for any player. Suggested solos, chord/scale sheets in all keys, and fully notated bass lines and piano voicings are included. 10759332 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . .MA 55.00 H Punta Del Soul—Dave Grusin/arr. Gordon Goodwin. Tasty and groovy with a funky Latin groove, this tune was composed by Dave Grusin and arranged by Gordon to feature Dave and guitarist Lee Ritenour on the Big Phat Band CD, Act Your Age. If you have a piano player to showcase and a tasty guitar player, this is a wonderful chart. Not technically difficult, but dynamics and colors are a key aspect of this arrangement. Doubles include an optional flute on 2nd alto and optional bass clarinet on bari sax, but sax parts are provided. As recorded by the Big Phat Band. 10071932 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . At around 112 bpm, this tongue-in- cheek chart is tons of fun and has a melody that just won't go away, plus the groove is one that people will insist on dancing to. It was arranged to feature Grammy-nominated accordionist Alex Meixner, but in the event you don't have an accordionist in the band (really?), you can feature any of your sauciest players on the optional B-flat, E-flat and Bass Clef solo parts. The solo parts are a combination of written passages and improvised choruses that will demonstrate the versatility of your ensemble. Nice! 10734981 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . .MA 60.00 4 Up Jumped Spring—Freddie Hubbard/arr. Jeff Jarvis.
