Go Tell It on the Mountain—arr. Mat Montgomery.
Add some funk to your holiday program with this
soulful arrangement of the Christmas spiritual Go
Tell It on the Mountain. Featuring the baritone sax
player on partially written and improvised solos, it's
loaded with gospel-inspired elements and style. The
improvised solo section is over only one chord, and a
blues scale can effectively be used most of the time.
Your students will thank you for this opportunity to
get on down and play this chart for Christmas and
holiday performances!

God Rest Ye Mambo, Gentlemen—arr. Greg
Moody. This chart is a Latin treatment of the
familiar Christmas carol and focuses on carols in a
minor key. It also includes quotes from several other
Christmas tunes, also in minor keys. At one point
the lower instruments play together in a unison
passage. There are two solo sections allowing for
the featuring of several players in the group with
a lot of built-in flexibility. All solos are written and
also include chord changes. A chart-specific guitar
chord sheet is included with fretboard diagrams,
chord symbols and notated chords. A nice
change-up for Christmas programs!

contrasting swing section with a written-out solo for
tenor sax. The lead trumpet range is to written A
above the staff. This will be a superb crowd pleaser
for your holiday concert!

Handel/arr. Mike Collins-Dowden. This chart is
both original and fun! Using themes from Handel's
"Messiah" woven throughout exciting big band
shout chorus writing, this chart is truly an inventive
take on a holiday classic! The solo section features
space for anyone in the band to play written or ad-
lib solos over B-flat blues changes. This will be one
for audiences to remember!

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing—arr. Rich
DeRosa. As arranged for the WDR Big Band, Rich
DeRosa's arrangement of the traditional Christmas
carol Hark, the Herald Angels Sing is a light, happy,
easy-swinging chart that is playable by almost any
band. Modest brass ranges, a laid-back tempo,
moderate rhythms and solo space for trumpet make
this a great chart to feature on any holiday concert.

It Swings Upon a Midnight Clear—arr. Larry
Neeck. This breezy, swinging arrangement in 3/4
meter, of the classic carol It Came Upon a Midnight
Clear will be a hit on any Christmas or winter
concert! The melodies are nicely stated over colorful
unison lines and some punchy brass support. The
change-of-pace middle section is established by
the insistent tom-tom rhythm (a la Krupa), while
the band builds up the riffs to a powerful climax.
Included suggested solos along with modest
solo changes will encourage students to give
improvising a try. It's also playable with optional
reduced instrumentation. This very appealing
holiday chart is perfect for that jazz moment in your
holiday concert!

Joy to the World—arr. Rich DeRosa. Rich DeRosa
once again provides us with his clever take on one
of the most popular Christmas carols, Joy to the
World. As arranged for the WDR Big Band, DeRosa
sets this traditional tune in a zydeco feel that
provides an entertaining journey from beginning to
end. Focusing entirely on the ensemble, there is no
improvisation in this chart. Rather, DeRosa builds
and builds the ensemble through creative rhythms,
harmonies, key changes, and grooves. This will be
an absolute crowd favorite!

Curnow. The brilliant arrangements done for the
Stan Kenton Orchestra by Ralph Charmichael
have been adapted into a medley of fresh, modern
versions containing Angels We Have Heard on High;
The Holly and the Ivy; O Tannenbaum and Good
King Wenceslas. He then arranged these wonderful
carols for standard big band instrumentation (five
saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones, piano,

Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!—Jule
Styne/arr. Gordon Goodwin. In the style of Basie
and Hefti, this Gordon Goodwin adaptation of the
wonderful holiday classic is set in a medium swing
style. Not a drum showcase, but the drummer has
plenty of solo space beginning on brushes, then to
sticks as the intensity rises. There is a flute part on
second alto (can be omitted) and a percussion part
for vibes. The optional solo space is for alto, tenor,
trumpet, trombone, and the lead trumpet range is
to written high E. A great sax section soli rounds out
this excellent chart. This one is so nice, you'll want
to play it year 'round! Highly recommended!

Styne/arr. Alan Baylock. This swinging holiday
arrangement is a slightly easier version of the
chart that Alan Baylock did for the USAF Airmen
of Note. It features the saxes in a "four brothers"
setting with written solo space provided for each
of the five saxes if desired. The lead trumpet range
is to written B above the staff and there are parts

Woolworth. This chart begins with a simple unison
opening statement giving way to a grandiose
chorale setting before settling into an accessible
Basie-style swing groove. There's a tenor solo, a
quick restatement of the melody, and suddenly it
goes to an up-tempo, double-time jazz feel. As
quickly as it began, it returns to the chorale setting
for a big finish. Wish your audiences a merry
Christmas with this chart that will be the perfect
