A groovin' shuffle bass line starts it off and then the ensemble kicks it and it's show time! Each section gets its moment to show off and then there's a solo section with straight-ahead blues changes that can be opened up to feature individual players. A sample solo is scored in the alto sax part and chord changes are included in all parts. A great opener to get the crowd going, this small group chart also features completely flexible instrumentation that can be tailored to available players or to get the desired sound. Also available in a big band version, Pepper number 10882378. 10882366 Combo (Flexible Instrumentation). . . . . . . ME 45.00 Doodlin' (Little Big Band)—Horace Silver/arr. Chuck Israels. Horace Silver created a blues with a perfectly consistent character and structured the accompaniments and his piano solo in perfect balance. Orchestrating the piano parts from the original recording is a fairly straightforward process. Some thought goes into choosing which instruments best express the music and there's some attention paid to contrasting timbres and textures, but so much of the music already exists in Silver's piano playing, both in his solos and in his accompaniments, that the piece is already there without additional writing. It's a perfect framework that will produce a telling performance. Small Band: ATB Saxes, Trumpet, Trombone, Piano, Guitar, Bass, and Drums. 10757434 Jazz Ensemble (Little Big Band) . . . . . . . . M 50.00 Easy Does It—Erik Sherburne/arr. Bob Turner. In a slightly mysterious fashion, this small group chart is a laid-back swing ballad and is an ideal solo feature for trumpet.
