Written for the true beginner, this piece takes the listener on an eerie tour that can best be described as an unsettling experience with a touch of curiosity and anxiousness. Piano and optional celesta (playable on a keyboard) create a haunting background reminiscent of a film score. Instruments move mostly by stepwise motion, and all string crossings involve an open string. No eighth notes are used, and many instruments use only five or six notes. This adaptable version will give you the flexibility to perform this with many different ensembles! 11306569 String Orchestra - for adaptable 3-part string ensemble (keyboard required) . . . . . . . . . 40.00 e Anthem of Triumph—Tyler Arcari. Anthem of Triumph is for all of the students who have made it to their first spring concert! Utilizing only the first six notes of the D-major scale, this exciting anthem will inspire young musicians. Perfect for beginners or as a celebration piece for events. 11100037 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . 40.00 11100038 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . 6.00 e Arco-ology—Joseph Compello. Arco-ology gives very beginning students the chance to play with more bow and develop good tone in their first year of playing. Opportunities are provided for all sections of the orchestra to showcase their developing musicality in this fun short piece. 10907779 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 10907780 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . 6.50 He First Scale March—Mark Williams. What a perfect way to celebrate learning that very first scale! Using only a one-octave D major scale and quarter notes, all sections join in the fun as the scale is played both forward and backward in the tuneful, easy march. Lots of interplay between the high and low strings help to make this a highly interesting and educational first- year selection. 2397552 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . 46.00 5724802 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . 6.00 He Impulse—Brian Balmages. For the very youngest musicians, this highly energetic piece does not use eighth notes, is based on a one-octave D Major scale, and uses mostly stepwise motion throughout. Despite these features, the music is powerful and aggressive. 10512570 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . 40.00 10512571 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . 5.00 e Instinct—Brian Balmages. This aggressive work for true beginners portrays those inherent, sometimes raw behaviors that help a species survive. All string parts move almost entirely by stepwise motion and use just half and whole notes. Violin 1 uses a full D major scale, and all other instruments use D through B. An optional percussion part adds considerable interest to the piece. A background track is also available if you do not have percussionists. Powerful! 10995999 String Orchestra, Percussion Optional. . . . . . . . . 45.00 10996000 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . 5.00 He Miniature Symphony—Richard Meyer. This brilliantly simple four-movement "symphony" is perfect for beginning string players who are just starting to read. Using only the notes of the D Major scale, each movement focuses on a distinct reading and playing skill. Whether you perform one movement or all four, your students will sound great while they get a chance to put their newly acquired reading skills to use and learn about basic symphonic form. Educational and fun! Includes parts for violin 3 (viola- treble clef) and piano accompaniment. Highly recommended for the first concert! 10050362 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . 46.00 10050363 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . 8.00 He The Russian Music Box—Soon Hee Newbold. Here is some exquisite writing for beginning orchestra! The B minor/modal tonality brings out that melancholy Russian sound while using notes familiar to all players. Thanks to some simple imitation, easy divisi writing, and doubling of viola by violin 2, this work sounds rich and interesting while using only quarter, half, and whole note values. Piano is optional. 2701807 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . 45.00 10061775 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . 5.00 e Subatomic—Larry Clark. Subatomic is written for the youngest of string students. It uses only the first six notes of the D scale, with no more difficult rhythm than two repeated eighth notes. Plus, there are no long sustained notes, which can often be challenging for young players. An exciting piece, despite limited technical resources, providing beginning players an opportunity for early musical success! 11100104 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . 40.00 11100105 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . 6.00 v e r y e a s y e Attack of the Walking Basses—Bob Phillips. Perfect for young orchestras, this Halloween bass-tacular features the entire bass section playing riffs and walking bass lines. The piece is written in first position for violins, violas, and cellos, but everyone gets to play exciting tremolos. The medieval-sounding excitement is all created using notes from the D scale, no slurs, and no sixteenth notes. 2475409 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . 46.00 5982750 Additional Score. . . . . . . . . . . . . 8.00 He Storm—Soon Hee Newbold.
