This sensitive, prayerful, and approachable setting
of text from the Psalms and Whitter's Divine
Compassion contains reflective moments that

Psallite Gloria—Michael J. Joncas. Joyful and
exuberant in nature, this edition begins with a
repeated refrain in Latin, with the rest of the setting
in English. While the enjoyable lilt of the tune
continues throughout, the changes in tonality and
tempo highlight the differentiation between portions
of praise and those of petition. A nice option for
celebrations of lesser festivity.

Missal. This setting of the "Glory to God" alternates
Latin with English text with richer and more

l Psalm 100: Make Joyful Noise—Clayton White.
This anthem is a reduction of Clayton White's four-
movement cantata on Psalm 100. Opening with a
"joyful noise" in the form of quartal harmonies in
both chordal and contrapuntal parts, contrasting
sections then follow: a slower a cappella section,
followed by lyric treble voices over a flowing
accompaniment, which then rebuilds to the opening
volume, ending as it began, with a joyful noise to fill
the sanctuary!

4 Psalm 139—Michael Burkhardt. A mysterious
introduction using keyboard, optional handbells,
and oboe gives way to a slow, lyrical 6/8 setting of
the psalm. Almost like a courtly dance, the tempo
fluctuates with the spirit of the text. After a reprise
of the introductory material, the anthem becomes
almost through-composed, reflecting the emotional
arch of the words. Some a cappella sections
provide nice contrast.

Psalm 150—Philip Stopford. This festive psalm
setting is a romp! Glorious in its color, interaction
with the organ, and its energy. The choral parts
provide some challenge, and the organ part will
require an accomplished organist. Stopford's
careful attention to the text and color make this a
rousing and engaging setting of a well-known text.
Highly recommended!

and phrasing. The work finishes with a soaring
optional descant or solo. In Latin throughout, with
the English translation included. Exciting!
