O Praise the Gracious Power—Lloyd Larson.
Lloyd Larson put on his most distinguished and
regal robes when he composed this piece. Using
a text by the revered theologian Thomas Troeger

magnificent theme. The hymn-tune In Christ There
is No East or West with congregation crowns the
anthem beautifully. Scored with optional brass
and percussion, this commission praises God and
honors our unity in Christ.

4 Our Paschal Lamb, That Sets Us Free—Robert
Buckley Farlee. Choir, organ, and brass trade joyful
phrases back and forth in this celebratory anthem
for Easter. Martin Franzmann's lively text dances in
6/8 time, and the brass quintet adds brilliance and
gravity. It can also be sung effectively with just the
organ accompaniment found in the choral score.

the congregation. The congregation sings in unison
while the choir augments the singing with parts. A
choir-only verse that may be sung a cappella, then
the final stanza with congregation plus descant
serve as the conclusion to this very useful setting.

The anthem was originally commissioned by the
Mississippi Conference on Church and Liturgy to
celebrate the rebuilding of St. Peter's-by-the-Sea

4L Ave Maria (No. 13, Regina Caeli, after Guerrero)
t —Daniel Knaggs. Inspired by Ave Maria composed
by the Renaissance Spanish composer Francisco
Guerrero, this very interesting work co-mingles the
Renaissance style with modern harmonic language.

motive and uses the specific, slightly altered Latin
text that he set. It is a beautiful choice for four-part
mixed a cappella choirs.

known phrase from Psalm 46, "Be still, and know
that I am God" for choir and piano. The piano's
repeated chordal patterns flow gently throughout,
and the long legato choral lines help the listener
drift into a world of peace and beauty. The
composer wrote this piece early one morning when
all was still and shrouded in a thin mist. Beautiful!

between the Latin refrain and English verses from
Psalm 98. With a somber middle bridge, the song
finishes triumphantly, declaring "Cantate Domino!"
