Christ Before Me—Kathleen Basi. Based on St.
Patrick's Breastplate, this setting expresses the
text with conviction and joy, sung in full four-part
harmony with flute obbligato. The briefer verses
provide harmonic contrast with a lovely, more lyrical
melody and can be sung by cantor or a section of
the choir.

a festive hymn concertato setting by Carl Smith. With
optional participation for the congregation on the first
and last verses, it provides an excellent opportunity
to immerse believers in the moment.

The Church Enduring—Joseph M. Martin. This
traditionally styled offering is a sturdy anthem
celebrating the church and its foundations of faith.
A regal hymn, the theme rises like a cathedral of
sound after briefly quoting the time-honored tune
ST. ANNE. Full harmonies emphasize the unity of
the church with the statement, "We are the church,
built on the solid Rock!" Two trumpets add a layer
of sonic satisfaction and a final heroic verse with
soaring descant crowns the work. Powerful!

L Clap, Clap Your Hands!—Marty Parks. Inspired
by Psalms 47 and 57, this piece is an energetic and
upbeat anthem of celebration. Unison lines burst
in and out of four-part harmony, and syncopated
melodic figures are passed back and forth from
soprano and alto to tenor and bass. A layered
section adds contrast before the piece builds to an
exciting conclusion. The optional brass ensemble is
sure to boost this piece even more. Terrific!

L Come By Here—arr. Kyle Pederson. This sensitive
setting for SATB and Piano is not to be missed. In
one spot the piano plays a guided improvisation
over the choir singing neutral syllables. In another
there is the option to sing unaccompanied. An
emotional high point occurs when the sections each
sing out their situations, "longing, falling, hiding,"
then answer together, "You are here." This work
hits every high mark in terms of vocal writing, a
skillful accompaniment, and a beautiful effect.

McGlade. This setting of 'The Call' by George
Herbert is simple but effective, reflecting the
directness of the original poem. The three-bar
phrases create a feeling of expectancy throughout
the verses and are beautifully intensified by
harmonic shifts in one verse and a soaring descant
in another.

L Covenant Prayer—Karen Marrolli. "Reach out
with loving hands to accept, affirm, embrace ev'ry
child of God throughout the world" is the main theme
of this very moving anthem. A memorable melody
adds depth to the meaningful text that was generated
from 'seed thoughts' of the commissioning church's
choir. Homophonic in texture, each verse builds
in intensity supported by a celtic-sounding piano
accompaniment of medium difficulty.

stars pour their healing light on you." The flowing
piano accompaniment supports the soaring legato
vocal lines to create a mature and artistic texture
while remaining accessible to choirs in school,

As a church musician himself, Hank Hinnant's choral
music is always accessible, inspirational, melodically
beautiful, and engaging to those who hear his
musical creation. He writes particularly well for high
school and adult church choirs. This piece, based
on Proverbs 8:1-11, is set for divisi mixed chorus

well on Christian Education Sunday.

an anthem of unity for all people, all cultures, and
all generations.

l Ebenezer—Heather Sorenson. A monument
of praise, this piece is ideal for church heritage
moments and times of affirming the mission of the
church. The Ebenezer stone was set up by Samuel to
commemorate God's help to the Israelites, making it
a symbol of God's faithfulness. As the words reflect
on that faithfulness, the music flows with passion
and power before ending quietly, acknowledging our
surrender to God's plan for our lives.

Lowry for mixed chorus with piano and optional

great for Music Ministry Sunday.

L Exsultate! Jubilate!—Kyle Pederson. This
unique setting pairs the iconic Latin text with a
new, original English text which responds to the
question: Why do we rejoice and shout our praises
to God? The music captures the energy, rhythm,
and exuberance inherent in the phrases "exsultate
Deo" and "jubilate Deo," but also reflects the quiet
joys found in gratitude for the daily gifts of breath
and light. The piano accompaniment is rhythmic
and lively.

occasions - but particularly comforting during
times of uncertainty or grief. The final climactic
verse draws on the text, "the flame will not hurt
you" and uses satisfying suspension and resolution
harmonies as it concludes. The rich piano part is for
