Ralph Ford. You may think this very clever chart is all swing, but it begins as Latin then alternates with a swing feel. The tempo is bright at around 190-200 bpm with suggested solos for trumpet and tenor sax, a few piano montunos, and a big shout chorus leading to a huge ending closing this fine chart appropriately. Additional wind parts and a vibes part are included for optional expanded instrumentations. Highly recommended! 10756380 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .48.00 N E W F O R 2 0 2 1 E D I T O R S ' C H O I C E It Is What It Ain't—Jamie Roth. Wow! This is a blues with serious attitude! It comes out of the gate roaring and includes plenty of interesting details that make this a standout chart for high school bands. Great dynamic contrasts are built in so there are some moments that whisper and some that explode. It's a great addition to the swinging blues repertoire at this level - you may even hear Basie's influence on this one! 11346108 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 It's Oh, So Nice—Sammy Nestico. As recorded on the great Basie-Straight Ahead album of 1968 by Count Basie, this swing outing features solid section and full ensemble writing, brass buckets, sax scoops, drum fills, and piano in the solo role. The tempo is not taxing with the quarter equaling 120; however, paying careful attention to dynamics will be especially important. The rhythm section parts are partially notated with chords cued. 2477338 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 l Jump Right In—Monika Herzig. The saxes and bones begin with a statement that "speaks" the title of the chart, first answered by piano and guitar and later answered by the full trumpet section. This is a solid medium-swing spiritual with hints of the blues. Solo changes are provided for tenor sax 1, trumpet 2, trombone 2, guitar, piano, and bass. Solo transcriptions from the recording are provided for trombone and guitar. Straightforward swing that feels right at home. 11347659 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 l Jumpin' June—Patrick Thompson. A straight- ahead swinger, this tune, named after a favorite granddaughter, features the sax section, a rollicking bari sax solo, a short piano solo, and ends with a crisp shout chorus. Fun to play! 11348680 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .45.00 Lady Bird—Tadd Dameron/arr. Mike Tomaro. Written by bebop composer Tadd Dameron as a tribute to Billy Holiday, this jazz standard belongs in every jazz musician's repertoire. With a short 16-bar form this tune is a great introduction into the harmonic language of bebop. Mike Tomaro's setting in the little big band format also includes some added bebop inspired lines. It's flexibly scored for six horns and rhythm section with optional parts provided. Nice! 11105226 Jazz Ensemble (Little Big Band). . . . . . . . . . . .45.00 The Main Attraction—Kris Berg. "The Main Attraction" is a hard drivin' shuffle in the style of Basie, Thad and Mel, and Phil Wilson, but with a slightly more modern groove. This is the perfect opener for any concert or festival! The tune is based on a 16-bar blues, features lots of ensemble for the band, and has solo spots for any saxophone, brass player, guitarist or pianist. Your performance can't go wrong if you're featuring "The Main Attraction!" 11206980 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 N E W F O R 2 0 2 1 E D I T O R S ' C H O I C E The Man I Love—George Gershwin & Ira Gershwin/arr. Mark Taylor. Using a sensuously slow Basie style, here is a distinctive setting of this Gershwin standard that features the entire ensemble. Lush brass scoring on the "A" theme is contrasted with the saxes on the bridge, followed by a solo for trumpet and ending with a stunning ensemble shout chorus. 11208473 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 N E W F O R 2 0 2 1 E D I T O R S ' C H O I C E l Marionette—Len Pierro. This medium swing is a killer chart that swings hard! Muted brass add some intriguing colors, and a great trombone soli will engage those players in your group. There is also some quality shout-chorus writing that will expose your students to all of the challenges of great ensemble playing. Highly recommended! 11354666 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 H Moanin'—Charles Mingus/arr. Andrew Homzy. Here's a playable yet very effective arrangement of this signature Mingus composition. The familiar baritone sax riff is handled by three saxes, and there is also a substantial soli for the entire saxophone section. Optional parts are included for flute, clarinet and French horn. A terrific introduction to the genius of Mingus! 10041748 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00 OUTSTANDING REFERENCE RESOURCES!
