H Moten Swing—Buster & Benny Moten/arr. Ernie
Wilkins. There have been a lot of published charts
on this great Ernie Wilkins arrangement, but this
is the original version as played and recorded by
the Count Basie Orchestra. Moten Swing is possibly
the most played piece of music by the Basie band
and has been recorded countless times, making it
a must-have for any band's library as it exemplifies
wonderful roaring ensemble passages with soft,
soft sections which will make your band sparkle.
This new Finale edition includes a transcribed
piano solo throughout, detailed rhythm section
parts which are written except during the solos, and
clearer, cleaner, more complete parts. Additionally,
there is solo space for tenor saxophone, trumpet
and piano.

late, great, brilliant arranger and composer Sammy
Nestico! This medium swing chart has written
or improvised solos for trumpet, alto, tenor, and
trombone. Superb writing provides sweet sax solis,
great dynamic contrasts, and a wonderful shout
chorus. Optional parts include flute, vibes, and

of Coltrane's favorites and played by jazz musicians
everywhere, this sweet bossa chart is magical.
It opens with alto 1 on the written melody, then

solo and lead trumpet range to written B-flat above
the staff. Perfect for any jazz performance, you'll

A Night at the Golden Nugget—Gene Roland/
arr. Bob Curnow. This is one of the highly original
swinging charts featured on Stan Kenton's
Adventure in Blues album. This edited version is
written for standard big band instrumentation. This
edition eases some of the challenges of the original
along with changing the instrumentation. Alto sax
and trumpet are soloists on this medium blues
swinger. It is a lot of fun to play!

Tomaro. This minor blues was written by Nat
Adderley for Chicago DJ, Holmes "Daddy-O" Daylie
and was first heard on Cannonball Adderley's
seminal album, "Somethin' Else." This well-
crafted arrangement swings just like the original,
and includes a flexible solo section for any soloist.
Written-out bass lines and piano voicings are
included as well as chord/scale sheets in all keys.
Highly recommended!

the Maestro is a relaxed swinger in the style of the

between the solos. After the solo section, there's a
highly effective full band section that begins quietly
and builds to a tasteful rubato ending. A great chart

piano and drums throughout. There are also some
independent bari sax lines and optional written
solos for alto, tenor and guitar. The lead trumpet

optional ending with lead trumpet notes up to C.

Brown's Sandu has long been a jam-session
staple for anyone that wants to shred some E-flat
blues. Chris Sharp delivers great ensemble writing
that really swings in the chart's blow section. The
familiar melody is featured with a trumpet and tenor
sax duet at the top of the tune and returns with
the duet at the end. Sandu also includes written or
improvised solos for tenor sax and trumpet with a
great "rhythm out" interlude between the solos. As
if that isn't enough, there's an excellent sax section
soli and a roaring shout chorus before the recap!

in all of its glory! Written in a 12-bar blues style,

entire band and, most importantly, the saxes!

Scarborough Fair—arr. Kris Berg. Arranged
for the wonderful saxophonist Chris Vadala,
this English folk song has been fashioned as a
contemporary-sounding chart in D minor that
moves from a loose, open swing to a straight-
ahead swing groove. Terrific development of
melodic material from the tune is paired with a
recurring triplet figure that ties the chart together.
Solo space for tenor saxophone and trumpet (with
Harmon mute) is included. Make sure your lead
trumpet has some chops as it gets up to an E!
This is a unique must-have chart for a developed
band. Highly recommended!

chart on Secret Love just cooks and cooks!

This is an accessible and terrific chart to showcase

Stockings is one of the greatest jazz tunes ever for
big band. Arranged by Greg Yasinitsky and scored at
an accessible level, this chart has all the ingredients
you expect plus a few short section solis and an
ensemble shout chorus. This arrangement stays
very close to the original, yet is more accessible for
developing groups. Other features include a written
solo for 2nd trumpet with the lead trumpet range to
written A above the staff. This Basie classic belongs
