Goodwin. A Gordon Goodwin vocal chart! In addition
to the vocal part, there are optional solo feature parts
for alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet or trombone for added
flexibility. Gordon has conceived this chart with the
solo intertwined into the fabric of the chart. The vocal
keys are F, G and Ab with modulations and the vocal
range is low E below middle C to Eb fourth space.
As recorded on The Phat Pack CD. An outstanding
feature for your singer or any horn player!

Turquoise—Sanford Kelly. This rambling jazz/
rock composition is a revival from a North Texas'
Lab '71 recording. This is an exciting chart! The
style changes will make this fun for your rhythm
section and your horns will be challenged by the
great writing, soaring lines, and variety of colors.
There is also an opportunity for a trumpeter to take
a solo. What a great way to close out a concert!

Tutu—Marcus Miller/arr. Michael Philip Mossman.
In 1987 Miles Davis took home the Grammy award
for best jazz instrumental soloist for his performance
of this composition by Marcus Miller. From the
album of the same name, Tutu is creatively arranged
here for full big band in a sultry hip-hop fusion style
similar to the original. Featuring distinctive modal
style harmonies, and a few twists and turns, and
solos for trumpet (naturally) and alto sax, this is sure
to be a standout selection for any ensemble!

Tweet Fatigue—Gordon Goodwin. Gordon
Goodwin wrote this superb chart for a good high
school jazz ensemble to be played around 126 bpm
with a straight-eighth feel and a rock groove. The
saxes start things off a cappella then things heat
up in a quirky, but clever Goodwin way. Solo space
is provided for a variety of players with separate
sample solos provided for C, B-flat, E-flat, and
trombone soloists. An auxiliary percussion part plus
all the usual optional parts plus vibes are included
for augmented instrumentations. Here's your
festival chart that's highly recommended!

Vending Machine Isn't Broke...—Craig
Skeffington. Here's an excellent contemporary
chart for big band by Craig Skeffington. Written in a
modern straight-eighth style at 170 bpm, it features
all sections of the band with improvisational space
for alto saxophone. Fully-notated rhythm section
parts, moderate brass ranges, a catchy melody, and
unique harmonies make this a favorite for festival or
concert performances. Wonderfully unique!

H What You Dealin' With?—Wycliffe Gordon. This
is the show closer that will bring down the house!
The main groove is a funky boogaloo at about 103
bpm, plus a band chant, a swing section, and a
gospel feel. Flexible solo space with written solos
is provided for trombone 1, alto, tenor, and trumpet
2, and the lead trumpet range is to high C. Hey,
there's something here for everyone!

H Whiplash—Hank Levy/arr. Erik Morales. Featured in
the 2014 movie "Whiplash," depicting the relationship
between an ambitious student musician and an
abusive, yet respected instructor, this chart is a
super-exciting work in 7/4 composed by Hank Levy
and arranged by Erik Morales. Don't be intimidated by
the meter... it's challenging, but after a few minutes it
feels quite natural and the students will totally groove
on it. The melody is stated by 2nd trumpet and 1st
alto with solo space for both on easy chord changes.
Articulation is critical and the rhythm section may
want to spend some quality time together. The lead
trumpet range is to written D above the staff. This is a
unique but very desirable chart to have in your library.
You won't regret playing Whiplash!
