Wellspring—Jack Wilds. This outstanding
work traces the emotional arc of finding renewal
in the midst of exhaustion. A recurring four-note
motive interacts with a beautiful lyrical melody.

transformed into a shout of sheer joy. A perfect

development while offering ample opportunities for
musicality and expressive playing.

Where Eagles Soar—Steven Reineke. The
majesty, beauty and strength of the eagle's flight
is portrayed with sensitivity and skill in this uplifting
work! This is a simply magnificent piece that sits
on the upper side of the medium-easy level due
to some brief flourishes in the woodwind parts, but
the result is spectacular. Each section is shown in
a favorable light, with idiomatic parts that show off
what they do best. Not only would this open any
concert with distinction, but it's a natural choice to
take to festival as well. Outstanding!

The Willow Tree—arr. Michael Sweeney.
Although the haunting tune has the flavor and
sentiment of a traditional Irish folk song, it was
composed in 1995 by multifaceted artist Padraigin
Ni Uallachain. Expressing the feelings of the wistful
lyrics, the music of this evocative setting for band
follows the emotional journey through the peaks
and valleys of sound and emotion.

The Witching Hour—Randall Standridge. Eerie
and macabre, the music recreates the time of night
when dark forces appear, gathering together for a
night of celebration and mischief. Four sections are
introduced by the ringing of bells, much like the
tolling of church bells late at night, casting a spell
over musicians and audiences alike.

With Every Winter's Breath—Randall D.
Standridge. In this moving tribute piece, the
composer has created a breathtakingly gorgeous
band work inspired by the idea that even after
death, a person's memory can inspire, comfort, and
influence our daily lives. A poignant original melody
and Go Tell it on a Mountain are both effectively
used to memorialize Maddie Milner, a trumpet
player in the Bayfield, CO High School band, who
passed on doing what she loved in a skiing accident
her freshman year. Your students and audience will
surely get emotionally involved with every aspect of
this stunning work!

H With Quiet Courage—Larry Daehn. This glowing

Within the Castle Walls—Brian Balmages.
A collection of Welsh tunes make up this four-
movement suite for developing bands. The first
movement, "A Mighty Warrior," is bold and brave,
like the hero it describes, with a strong Celtic feel.
"Over the Stone" is the reverent and reserved second
movement. A stately and majestic theme is heard in
"Men of Harlech." The suite concludes with "Owain
Glyndwr's War Song," which is a Celtic military style
march. A strong piece for any concert program.

H Yorkshire Ballad—James Barnes. This is
unusually nice, and can be exceptionally effective
for concert or contest! It's a very solidly scored, rich,
lyrical, lush setting of a typical English folk ballad
that contains flowing countermelodies throughout
which are of equal importance to the melody.
A perfect contrast to a bolder, more vigorous
selection, this quite playable work will present your
band in a most positive way!

A Zillion Nickels—Samuel R. Hazo. When you
look out at the ocean, what does it resemble? This
unique, driving composition paints that picture. The
upper Atlantic beaches hold many stories, from
beautifully scenic sunrises to the wrath of hurricane
Sandy. Three high schools in Toms River, New
Jersey commissioned this musical depiction of their
celebrated shore, from joy to turbulence. The heavy
emphasis on percussion only adds to the exciting
build and powerful ending!

from "Final Alice," the fifth of six large works for
soprano and orchestra based on Lewis Carroll's
"Alice in Wonderland" books. This arrangement
for band is designed to be playable by a wide
variety of groups and is appropriate for large or
small ensembles. The gentle melody, heartrending
harmonies and artful instrumental voicing give this
piece a truly timeless feel.

Adagio—David Holsinger. Composed in memory
of a departed friend, this work is an intensely
emotional synthesis of both joy and pain, the result
being a beauty touched with sadness similar to
the effect achieved by Albinoni's famous Adagio.
Also similar with that work is its large arch form,
which culminates with a broad full band statement
of the theme set against a proud counterstatement
in the horn section. On either side of the arch is
a long, expressive crescendo/decrescendo built
upon a rising bass line almost like a passacaglia.
A beautiful tribute!
