is light and breathy, made up mostly of staccato
notes. Water, the second movement, ripples and
flows softly and gently. An homage to Holst's The
Planets can be heard in Earth, the third movement.
The piece concludes in an intense inferno with Fire.

the lovely combination of solo flute and harp,

beloved tune is developed masterfully through the

dark timbres. It also introduces another folk tune
with a big, powerful sound. Brilliant!

Williams. This is a refreshing and exciting work!
Yankee Doodle seems like such a simple melody,
but it's amazing how well Mark Williams develops
it using a set of variations. Although opened by a
humorous statement of the theme by solo tuba,
you'll soon find that this is not a novelty piece.
The varied styles and moods are displayed in well-
written music that is perfectly held together by the
original theme. Excellent!
