Apocalyptic—Anton Bruckner/arr. Kirk Moss.
All the power and force of the Finale of Bruckner's
Eighth Symphony is masterfully captured in this
authentic and first-ever arrangement for string
orchestra. Mature players will have the opportunity
to expand on their shifting and vibrato technique
as well as overall musicianship by exploring varying
bow weights and speeds to create the wide variety
of tone and dynamics that are required. An optional
timpani part greatly enhances the intensity. A great
addition to the classical repertoire!

Capriccio Espagnol—Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov/
arr. Robert D. McCashin. This resetting for string
orchestra has successfully kept the composer's
intent, and to a great extent, the sounds and colors
of the original orchestration. While requiring some
substantial string forces, it's fully approachable
by able high school groups. It consists of five
connected movements based on Spanish themes.
A terrific addition as a primary work for any concert!

is colorful and lighthearted, providing artistic and
pedagogical opportunities for moderately advanced
students. New edition and engraving.

Moore. Everyone is familiar with this one! The
standard piece known as the "Bach Double"
features two capable violin soloists. Arranged for
string orchestra with optional piano (or harpsichord),
the viola, cello and bass sections play throughout
as the two solo violin parts alternate between tutti
sections and solo sections.

Day of Wrath—Giuseppe Verdi/arr. Deborah
Baker Monday. Day of Wrath (translated from the
Latin "Dies Irae") with its dramatic extremes of
emotion is a great choice for any concert or festival.
This setting by Verdi in his Requiem Mass was first
performed in 1874. Repeated 16th notes are used
extensively along with divided parts to create a full,
sonorous effect with huge dynamic contrasts from
the fortissimo opening to the morendo ending.

Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral—Richard
Wagner/arr. Matthew Moreno. Introduce your
orchestra and audience to this passionate
arrangement from Wagner's famous opera,
"Lohengrin." This transcription keeps the textures
and colors amazingly true to the full operatic
score while featuring solo violin and cello. Equally
powerful for chamber orchestras or large string
orchestras, this work is sure to make a profound
impact at your performance. Stunning!

Fidelio Overture—Ludwig van Beethoven/arr.
Todd Parrish. The Fidelio Overture was written
in 1814 to open Beethoven's only opera by the
same name. This string orchestra arrangement is
transposed from the original E major to the more
approachable key of D major. It retains the original
opening which alternates between powerful majestic
bursts and lyrical harmonic progressions, finishing
with the energetic presto to the end. Optional
timpani gives this arrangement a symphonic quality
that closely resembles the original.

Finale from "Symphony No. 5"—Pyotr Ilyich
Tchaikovsky/arr. Brian Holmes. The finale of
Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 is a fantastic
orchestral movement. It is very grand in nature and
appears to reflect Tchaikovsky's nationalist writing
tendencies. The arrangement for string orchestra
captures the powerful melodies originally heard in
winds and brass. Beautiful melodies are introduced,
building to a majestic return of the opening theme.
The movement closes with a strong and exciting
finale. Includes optional timpani.

Ghosts of Brandenburg—Richard Meyer.
Imagine a fantasy based on all six of the
Brandenburg Concerti! This arrangement captures
the spirit of the original works, but sets most of
them in minor keys or uses darker tones, pizzicato,
and meter changes J.S. Bach may never have
imagined. This is inventive and challenging work
will take your intermediate strings on a nine-minute
journey that will build their endurance along with
their musicality.

Hebrides Overture—Felix Mendelssohn/arr. Jason
Librande. Now string orchestras alone can enjoy this
massive work of the orchestral repertoire for contest
or any concert performance. Mendelssohn's classic
melody follows the ebb and flow of the ocean waves
as each section adds its voice to a vivid musical
portrait. The overture requires skill in bow control
and ensemble work with advanced rhythms, but
the result is dynamic and just as compelling as its
counterpart for full orchestra.
