Intonation—Marsha Chusmir Shapiro. Designed for
the orchestra classroom, this method book provides
17 pieces for string orchestra that are each performed
using a single finger pattern, as found in the popular
Bornoff methodology. Each pattern reinforces
intonation and finger placement for violin, viola, cello,
and bass though individual compositions that are
preceded by a warm-up using that particular finger
pattern. All instruments have interesting melodic and
harmonic lines and violins, violas and celli remain in
first position, while basses are given the opportunity
to shift within the pattern. Fully edited with fingerings
and bowings, the book offers enjoyable way for
students to improve precise and consistent left hand
skills and work toward better intonation.

the Celtic fiddling tradition are presented first in a
simplified, very easy "basic" version of the tune,
printed with note names in the note heads, followed
by an "advanced" but still accessible version. Each
version is on its own staff to avoid confusing young
readers. Several options for simple backups and
very basic improvisation tips are provided for each
instrument. Lyrics are included where applicable. The
accompaniment CD features recordings of the basic
and the advanced tune as well as a backup track for
