This instrumental hit soared to the top of the charts in 1968, featuring an energetic pop groove and catchy brass riffs. This chart for young players has beautifully captured the unique flavor of the original and includes the transcribed solo of Hugh Masekela, which can be played by a trumpet soloist or by the entire section. Different and fun! 11208480 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . ME 45.00 Group Dynamics—Ric Flauding & Paul Baker. Here is a high-energy melodic rock chart that features the guitarist in your band in a nod to the famous Pat Metheny Group. Hitting hard from the outset, this chart provides great opportunities to show off a strong drummer as well, both with the ensemble and in an extended solo section. Trumpet range is to written D. Trombone range is to A flat. Solo opportunities are also present for trombone and tenor sax. After the horn solos, a long development section featuring the drums builds to the shout chorus and the return of the bridge and final climax. 11349288 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . MA 55.00 Hip Hip Hop—Steve Shanley/arr. Bob Turner. This flexible combo version of a big band piece is a great choice for mixing up styles at your next concert. It has a modern hip-hop sound that your students and audience will love, and the writing lends itself to the needs of young ensembles. Honk!—Jack Cooper. The biting dissonance of the sharp nine chord is used as the centerpiece for this free-spirited, funky rock chart. Cutting, angular lines and interesting counterpoint come together to create a unique piece in the repertoire for music at this level. There are plenty of opportunities to work on those heavy articulations and big punches for your lows. It is surprisingly sophisticated with just the right amount of grit to warrant the title. 11346106 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . VE 45.00 21 NEW LATIN CHARTS! Danzon—Terry White. The danzon is a slow, formal Cuban dance. This original chart is an excellent introduction for young players to this particular Latin style. VE 42.00 Journey to Recife—Richard Evans & Norman Gimbel/arr. Terry White. Composed in the early 1960s, this marvelous bossa nova may not be as well known as some, but it is no less attractive - especially arranged here for young bands. This calypso chart might be the happiest piece ever written for young jazz ensemble. Like the classic Sonny Rollins piece St. Thomas, this composition uses simple basic chords and rhythms, but the end result is a sparkling, bright change-of-pace chart. There are some opportunities for soloing for alto and trumpet, and your rhythm section players will appreciate the carefully crafted parts that are easy to play but sound great. 11346130 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . E 45.00 Un Poco Mas—Paul Baker. Un poco mas - a little bit more- that's what this chart offers, and it delivers! Opening with a definitive brass statement, it settles into a smooth Latin groove before switching things up with a half-time feel on the bridge. Returning to Latin, the form finishes and launches into the solo sections. Both solos can be successfully navigated using only the concert F harmonic minor or F blues scales. Written solos are provided for trumpet and tenor sax. The chart ends with a roar to the finish line! 11349290 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .ME 45.00 What Is This Thing Called Love? (from "Wake Up and Dream")—Cole Porter/ arr. Alan Baylock. Yes! This is a hot swinger played in double time around 110 bpm that alternates with a samba groove.
