H Autumn Leaves—Joseph Kosma/arr. Peter
Blair. This is a great old tune! Except...there's
nothing "old" sounding about it. It's a medium
swing version of a marvelous, often-played
standard that opens with an alto and trumpet
duet and is filled with tight ensemble punches.
The saxes are featured on a chorus and there is a
written or ad lib solo for piano.

retains all the drive and uplifting energy of the
original. Instrumentation: six horns (ATB saxes,

Wasson. Recorded by Trombone Shorty on his
2011 album For True and featuring the Rebirth
Brass Band and 5th Ward Weebie, this hot tune

moderate tempo and catchy riffs. The trombones
get the spotlight to start with, followed by
tight ensemble playing and later space for
an improvised or written trombone solo. This

Herbie Hancock for the developing band? Yes!
From Hancock's famous Headhunter recording,
here is a great opportunity to play the biggest
jazz-rock hit of all time. The melody is first
played by alto, tenor, trumpet and trombone,
then the trumpet section. Next up is a flexible,
open solo section with a solo line written for all
the winds so anybody or everyone can solo! The
top note for lead trumpet is written G on top of
the staff. Super-cool chart! Optional expanded

Yep, this is the Sing, Sing, Sing you know and

as the crowd can stand, along with a written-out
tenor solo, reasonable brass ranges and lots of
meaty ensembles keep this great chart exciting.
It will also sound full with reduced instrumentation
or with the optional, non-jazz band parts. It's still
a showstopper! Highly recommended!
