This song embraces the positive message of
living in the moment and appreciating the journey
of life. We can all leave a positive mark on others
around us. The 6/8 time signature and catchy
melody sweeps the listener away to a hopeful
place. Perfect for graduations or moving-up
ceremonies!

Justice—Jim Papoulis. Written with young
singers at a songwriting workshop, the text of
unity and social action by young people rings
through clearly. Strong harmonies support the
lyrics in this contemporary setting, declaring
"Justice is calling me. Freedom will lead us to
unity. We won't stop 'til we all find justice."

Light at the End of the Tunnel—Jim Papoulis.
Composed in a Foundation for Small Voices
songwriting workshop during the 2020 pandemic,
the young participants settled on a text that calls
for hope and light at the end of the tunnel. Their
positive attitude led to the creation of an upbeat
syncopated setting with lyrics that center on the
future and achieving it together. Fun to sing and
inspiring to perform!

The Lost Words—James Burton. The text of
this major work is from the award-winning book
of the same name, which was a creative response
to the removal of everyday nature words like
acorn, newt, and otter from a new edition of a
widely used children's dictionary. This 32-minute
selection in 12 short movements celebrates each
lost word with a beautiful poem that is magically
brought to life in the music.

Love-Free—Meredith Tompkins. Sara
Teasdale's poem is paired with an enchanting
melody, reminiscent of an antique music box,
and a waltz-like accompaniment in a lilting 3/4
pattern. Varied in texture, with unison, two-part
and three-part sections, this piece is a great
training selection for treble choirs that also has a
high performance value.

A Melody of Love—Jim Papoulis. Composed
with young singers in a songwriting seminar, this
hopeful piece resonates with the themes and
musical styles of our younger generation. The
lyrics are about the fact that "love, small acts of
kindness, and genuine positivity can alter us,"
and the melody and simple harmonies are upbeat
with parts that are fun to sing.

The Oarsmen—Meredith Tompkins. Ashley
Dame's text depicts the Viking Age: a time
of battle and conquest, when brave mariners
ventured forth to create, protect, and defend
their new homes and lives. Written specifically
to provide a comfortable tessitura for unchanged
(Stage I and Stage II) emerging tenor and bass
voices, it offers the right mix of flexibility and
exciting appeal that will guarantee success.

Ombra Mai Fu—G.F. Handel/arr. Adam Podd
& Matt Podd. Originally written for solo soprano,
Handel's well-known masterpiece has been
reimagined for choir, with a modern touch. An
ode to nature's beauty with its original Italian text,
this new arrangement makes a perfect spring or
concert selection that is easy to put together. Two
separate piano accompaniments are available,
easier and advanced. The accompaniment MP3
includes a shorter version and a longer version
with the cuts indicated in the score for added
flexibility. Also available as a virtual choir kit.

t The Radium Girl—Michael Bussewitz-Quarm.
Based on the tragic story of the "Radium Girls"
- young women who were exposed to radium
as part of their work in clock factories who
eventually died from the exposure. This piece
is intended to shine a light on these women
and other people working in tragic conditions
through the power of song. Unique overtone
singing and interesting musical textures express
the text in a creative way.

Reconcile—Kyle Pederson. Hoping to inspire
reconciliation on a community and individual
level, the composer seeks to build a caring
community and find unity through this melodic
piece. Blending elements of pop and gospel, and
providing an optional descant layer in Swahili,
this musical offering reinforces the universality
of its themes. Separate voicings can be sung
simultaneously for combined choirs, and space is
provided for optional narration to further explore
the concept of reconciliation. A flexible, timely,
and accessible piece for all ensembles.

D
Refuge—Elaine Hagenberg. Sara Teasdale's
poem is the inspiration for this dramatic concert
work which relies heavily on the tumultuous
piano and cello accompaniment to convey the
deep feeling of the text. The opening section is
dark and stormy, but the sun comes out in the
final section with serene moments of mostly
unaccompanied choral harmonies. "For with
my singing I can make a refuge for my spirit's
sake, a house of shining words, to be my fragile
immortality."

D
Responsibility—Mark Sirett. Jewish leader
and scholar Hillel the Elder captures the
tension between the need for healthy self-care
and the importance of caring for others. This
contemporary arrangement combines the ancient
Hebrew text with modern English lyrics to create
an elegant and folklike setting.
