HD Sing, My Child—Sarah Quartel. This joyful text
t
celebrates the beauty found all around us in
everyday life. Characterized by tight harmonies
and a dynamic percussion line, the buoyant 7/8
meter of the opening drives the piece forward.

the text evolves into a call for strength despite
the troubles that may come. Commissioned for
a massed choir of over 700 singers, this piece is
well suited for combined choir projects or as a

The Song I Came to Sing—Craig Hella
Johnson. Accompanied by cello, the choral lines
weave and dip as they provide delicious tension
between the stretched duple rhythms and
the lilting compound meter of the setting. The
plaintive quality of the melody perfectly sets the
text that speaks of longing for an encounter that
has not yet happened - thus, "The song I came to
sing remains unsung."

L Te Deum: Laudamus Propter Musicam—
Allan Robert Petker. The traditional Te Deum
takes on a fresh perspective in this three-
movement work; the full title means "praise
to God for music." The first movement
pays homage to our Baroque ancestry in
its Handelian treatment, but in modern-day
tonalities. The second is lush and tender,
while the third blends the traditional Latin text
with the beautiful poetry of Fred Pratt Green,
When in Our Music God Is Glorified. Composed
for choir and orchestra, it is performable with
piano alone or with several different orchestral
options. It has been performed at Carnegie Hall
and throughout the U.S. and Europe.
