and appears in many hymnals, making it
appropriate for school, church, or concert.

CHIME BANDS
Music Literacy for Non-music Readers
Malmark. Optimize teaching for non-music readers! If you have handchimes at your disposal,
teaching music reading with the help of colors couldn't be simpler! Using colors or shapes
corresponding to pitch names is an effective way to teach eye and hand coordination to non-
music readers. Colored bands can be wrapped around the handchime tubes so that each ringer
can identify a pitch with a color. In the case of color-blindness, the shape may also be drawn on
the band. The success rate in learning is quite high, and this process is a natural step leading to
music literacy. Used in Boomwhacker and KidsPlay systems. Available in packets of eight band
colors (five of each color) and a template for trimming the bands to size.
