SECULAR CONCERT
Crowded Table—Natalie Hemby, Lori McKenna &
Brandi Carlile/arr. Andrea Ramsey. In an easy swing
feel, this country pop song from new supergroup The
Highwomen delivers a powerful message for women
and girls to band together and hold one another up.
The optional fiddle adds a nice touch to the pretty
choral harmonies in this poignant selection.

Dance Little Flame—Jim Papoulis. The metaphor
embraced by the young poets that collaborated on
this piece is that of a flame in all of us that, when
encouraged, keeps dancing and giving others
hope. The simple melody will give young choirs the
opportunity to work on dynamics and expression to
share this truly special message.

Dance on My Heart—Allen Koepke. This light-

with concert and festival choirs, and is on several
state contest lists.

Dark & Luminous Night—Ola Gjeilo. Based
on the extended works Dark Night of the Soul
and Luminous Night of the Soul, this set includes
shortened versions of both works featuring the
parts that are closest to the composer's heart.
The pieces are linked through the musical theme
at the end of Dark Night that comes back as the
main theme of Luminous Night. These shortened
versions can be combined into one work, though
both can be performed independently as well, with
Luminous Night functioning as a kind of exuberant
coda. As in the original works, these selections
are scored for mixed divisi choir, piano and string
quartet. Exceptional!

an extra dose of scary surprises. The text is cleverly
conceived and will give you plenty of teaching

style, and the literary and historical significance of
Edgar Allan Poe. Your students will love this!
