Land of Make Believe—Chuck Mangione/arr.
Victor Lopez. Get out the Latin percussion for
this famous tune! A lazy intro for trumpet and

into a mambo later on, then back to the samba
feel. Turn your first trumpet player loose on this
and drive your audience into a frenzy! This will go
over big for contest and festival performances,
too! Very highly recommended!

Un Poco Mas—Paul Baker. Un poco mas - a
little bit more- that's what this chart offers, and it
delivers! Opening with a definitive brass statement,
it settles into a smooth Latin groove before
switching things up with a half-time feel on the
bridge. Returning to Latin, the form finishes and
launches into the solo sections. Both solos can
be successfully navigated using only the concert F
harmonic minor or F blues scales. Written solos are
provided for trumpet and tenor sax. The chart ends
with a roar to the finish line!

Latin Selections
Medium
Afro Blue—Mongo Santamaria/arr. Michael
Mossman. Even though this is scored by Michael
Philip Mossman for just six horns in the Little Big
Band Series, the writing is sophisticated and full
sounding. Written in 3/4, but featuring an Afro-
Cuban 6/8 groove, this marvelous chart includes
solos for tenor or trumpet. Instrumentation: 3
saxes, 2 trumpets, 1 trombone, rhythm section
with optional additional parts for alto sax, tenor sax
and trombone.

Afro Blue—Mongo Santamaria/arr. Michael
Mossman. Made famous by John Coltrane, but
treated here in a more traditional Afro-Latin style,
this is something a little different for jazz ensemble.
As with all Mossman charts, the rhythm section is
meticulously notated to ensure the correct style.
The 3/4 pattern throughout draws heavily on
African influences and the melody is masterfully
passed from section to section. A single pentatonic
scale works for the solo section, making this a
wonderful vehicle for involving many soloists.
2478928 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . .55.00
Blackbird—Lennon & McCartney/arr. Mark Taylor.
The haunting and distinctive Blackbird, from The
Beatles' White Album, is adapted here in a moderate
and soft samba style in the Little Big Band format.
Trumpet and alto sax are featured on the melody and
for written or improvised solos. This creative chart
also has some nice ensemble trades with the drums.
Flexibly scored for three saxes, two trumpets, one
trombone, and four rhythm with optional additional
parts for alto sax, tenor sax and trombone.
