Ironwork—Ted Allen. Ironwork alludes to both
the heavy metal music genre and the art of
blacksmithing, an ancient craft from prehistoric
times. The opening unison riff is a great exercise
in the Locrian mode, and the driving momentum
continues through many modal shifts, punctuated
with riffs and ostinatos and even some basic
bariolage for second violins and violas. Exciting!
