Antamina—Lauren Bernofsky. This work is
a metaphor likening the mining and refining of
silver to the rehearsal process, where the "raw
material" is gradually honed into a sparkling,

Irish Junkyard Jam—Brian Balmages. Featuring
string quartet and orchestra, this tour de force
follows a few straggling Irish musicians (the quartet)
who find themselves in a junkyard picking up scrap

groove, they are joined by the rest of the orchestra
and the party is on! While not based on a specific
folk song, the piece draws on elements ranging
from a traditional pub band to Irish step dance. Fun,

The Island of Saints and Scholars—David
O'Fallon. "The island of saints and scholars" is an old
nickname for Ireland dating back to the early Middle
Ages. This original work is a reflection upon Ireland's
rich and turbulent history, which can be heard in the
lyrical melodic phrases, ever-changing meter, and
moments of dissonance. The rhythmic profile of the
piece was suggested by a type of Old Irish verse that
carries seven syllables per line, resulting in a vibrant
and spirited musical experience.

La Cascara—Jeremy Woolstenhulme. This work
is on fire from the opening measure to its final
ending. Rhythmically complex, it includes some two

Overture to the Wind—Kirt Mosier. Expressing
the many different moods and events of a storm,
the opening begins with the violins playing a
gripping ostinato pattern suggesting that a storm
is coming. The first two themes convey the erratic
tendency of powerful gusty winds. The storm
moves into a peaceful lull with a melancholy third
theme played by a solo violin and viola. The storm
then grows in intensity as the final statement
combines all the elements (or themes) of the storm.
