Feature a guitar soloist or any member of the orchestra (or even a combination of players!). This work paints a portrait of a sleepy, late night in Brazil as a lone tango dancer walks the streets. Every member of the orchestra has the solo printed on the back of their section part, giving directors incredible flexibility with choosing a soloist or combination of soloists. This piece provides a perfect vehicle for reinforcing legato and hooked bowings, vibrato, and light chromaticism. A powerful and beautiful work. 11349036 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . .60.00 11349037 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . . .5.00 American Landscape—Soon Hee Newbold. Soon Hee Newbold has created wonderful music based on Gypsy music, Spanish music, Asian music, and now turns to a more open and rugged American sound, and succeeds!Drawing from the diverse and unique scenes of the United States, this soaring work pays tribute to majestic mountains, vast plains, lush forests, and more.Give your players a chance to capture this evocative American sound. Breathtaking! 10008710 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . .50.00 10008711 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . . .5.00 Ante Meridian—Todd Parrish. Inspired by a painting of the same name, this engaging work features memorable rhythmic patterns of sixteenth notes, flat-key fingerings, and varied articulations. The original painting evokes the awesome, eternal nature of the sea, depicted musically with constant motion and majestic themes. 10986317 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . .49.00 10986319 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . . .9.00 Archaic Voices—Doug Spata. Archaic Voices was written at the request of a friend of the composer who wanted an easy piece she could use to introduce low first-finger B flats. Her students really responded to the aggressive style, approachable rhythms, and quick tempo. Part independence is kept to a minimum to help young players stay together, and the wide dynamic range adds to the drama of the piece. This is a bold selection that students and teachers can both appreciate. 10738927 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . .49.00 10738959 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . . .9.00 Arco Polo for Multi-Level Orchestra—Ingrid Koller. This engaging piece for string orchestra is appropriate for any time of the year but is especially fun for a summer orchestra concert. Arco Polo is a musical depiction of the well-known swimming-pool game Marco Polo. The piece begins tutti pizzicato, but then the instruments "call out" to each other using their bows. This is a multilevel piece which makes it a practical choice for an orchestra with students at varying skill levels. It can stand alone as a Level 1.5 piece, but with the addition of the advanced violin, viola, and cello parts it becomes even more challenging and fun. For yet another layer of fun, there is an optional improvisational section where students are randomly (perhaps secretly) selected to be the "caller" and the rest of the orchestra answers. As an extra surprise for the orchestra and audience, an audience member can be cued to literally call out to the orchestra. 11399763 Multi-Level Orchestra . . . . . . .40.00 11399764 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . . .7.00 Arith-Metric No. 1 for Strings—Brian Balmages.
