BLUES & SWING
Haitian Fight Song—Charles Mingus/arr.
Andrew Homzy. Featuring a dark intensity
and a powerful unison riff figure in minor,
this medium swing chart is a great showcase
for your bass player as well as the trombone
section. The harmonic structure is quite simple,
but the depth of the arrangement comes from
the thematic layers that are continually added
throughout. Written solo (or soli) sections are
included for the trombones and trumpets as well
as notated piano voicings and bass lines. The
brass ranges are moderate and optional parts
are included for flute, clarinet and F horn. Here
is an exciting Mingus gem for your band!
Highly recommended!

It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That
Swing)—Duke Ellington/arr. Ralph Ford. You
may think this very clever chart is all swing, but
it begins as Latin then alternates with a swing
feel. The tempo is bright at around 190-200 bpm
with suggested solos for trumpet and tenor sax,
a few piano montunos, and a big shout chorus
leading to a huge ending closing this fine chart
appropriately. Additional wind parts and a
vibes part are included for optional expanded
instrumentations. Highly recommended!

Moanin'—Charles Mingus/arr. Andrew Homzy.
Here's a playable yet very effective arrangement
of this signature Mingus composition. The familiar
baritone sax riff is handled by three saxes, and
there is also a substantial soli for the entire
saxophone section. Optional parts are included
for flute, clarinet and French horn. A terrific
introduction to the genius of Mingus!

Superb writing provides sweet sax solis, great
dynamic contrasts, and a wonderful shout
chorus. Optional parts include flute, vibes, and

annual chicken chart has arrived! It's a very
accessible rock groove played around 146 bpm
and features written-out solo opportunities for

Out of the Doghouse—Erik Morales. Arranger/
composer Erik Morales delivers! This outstanding
shuffle chart sounds like a big old freight train
coming down the tracks, and it just builds and
builds! There's a wonderful section after the
optional solos that features a powerful sax soli
without the rhythm section, and there are great
breaks for piano and drums throughout. There
are also some independent bari sax lines and
optional written solos for alto, tenor and guitar.
The lead trumpet range is to written A above the
staff and there's an optional ending with lead
trumpet notes up to C. This is a hot chart! Our
highest recommendation! Optional expanded
instrumentation.
