Kirk Moss. All the power and force of the Finale of Bruckner's Eighth Symphony is masterfully captured in this authentic and first- ever arrangement for string orchestra. Mature players will have the opportunity to expand on their shifting and vibrato technique as well as overall musicianship by exploring varying bow weights and speeds to create the wide variety of tone and dynamics that are required. An optional timpani part greatly enhances the intensity. A great addition to the classical repertoire! 11349253 String Orchestra, Percussion Optional . . . . . . Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky's three masterpiece ballet scores, including Sleeping Beauty, are known for their timeless music. This arrangement for string orchestra captures the enduring melodies and great depth of Tchaikovsky's genius. Because much of Tchaikovsky's style is not written with articulations, students will need assistance with the bow stroke in order to perform this incredible piece. This march, which follows the overture in the ballet, was renamed Aurora's March for this arrangement. 11402301 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . This staple of the string orchestra repertoire, composed in 1927, is based on a suite of six Renaissance dances. Each dance offers a different mood and rhythm, and together they form an excellent concert work. Original edition. 427864 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . Samuel Coleridge-Taylor was extraordinary in his use of themes from African American folk music, and his success contributed to the empowerment of African American musicians and composers who came after him. The final movement from a larger work, this high-energy piece is one spectacular example of Coleridge-Taylor's talent. Fingerings are clearly marked to facilitate technical passages. This is a perfect concert closer! 11398760 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . A spellbinding exploration of the music of Spain, these four exciting yet contrasting sections offer challenging parts for all players. From unrelenting rhythmic drive to beautifully lyric emotion, three of Spain's most famous composers are represented in this rewarding medley of Asturias Leyenda; Tango in D; Adelita and Danza Ritual del Fuego. 11400516 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . MA 60.00 11400517 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . . . . 10.00 Fidelio Overture—Ludwig van Beethoven/arr. Todd Parrish. The Fidelio Overture was written in 1814 to open Beethoven's only opera by the same name. This string orchestra arrangement is transposed from the original E major to the more approachable key of D major. It retains the original opening which alternates between powerful majestic bursts and lyrical harmonic progressions, finishing with the energetic presto to the end. Optional timpani gives this arrangement a symphonic quality that closely resembles the original. 11202215 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . MA 60.00 11202216 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 9.00 Ghosts of Brandenburg—Richard Meyer. Imagine a fantasy based on all six of the Brandenburg Concerti! This arrangement captures the spirit of the original works, but sets most of them in minor keys or uses darker tones, pizzicato, and meter changes J.S. Bach may never have imagined. This is inventive and challenging work will take your intermediate strings on a nine-minute journey that will build their endurance along with their musicality. 10050371 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . MA 62.00 10050372 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 8.00 The Inner Planets (Themes from Mercury, Venus, and Mars)—Gustav Holst/arr. Carrie Lane Gruselle. This cleverly titled work includes three famous themes from "The Planets." The swooping, fluttery sounds of Mercury, the Winged Messenger give way to the mystical tone clusters and serenity of Venus, the Bringer of Peace. The arrangement closes with the iconic militant ostinato and dissonance of Mars, the Bringer of War. 11203131 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . The overture to "Cesare in Farmacusa," an opera that tells of the boy Julius Caesar's journey by sea in a treacherous storm to Farmacusa, near Sicily. The plot abounds with pirates, gypsy lovers, and of course, Roman gods, all of which provided much entertainment to the audiences at the time. 11401148 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . All the shrouded mystery and resplendent grandeur of the fourth movement of Respighi's masterpiece Pines of Rome have been effectively captured in this brilliant arrangement for string orchestra and timpani (required). Michael Haydn, Franz Joseph Haydn's younger brother, was also a composer. For this piece, the arranger has added direction to a score that previously lacked dynamics. The orchestra should play the eighth notes spiccato. The sixteenth notes have to be exact (middle or slightly below the middle of the bow to give the aural illusion of bounce to make it sparkle). Make sure to save some sound for the long crescendo. 11402316 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . MA 55.00 11402317 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . . . . 10.00 Sinfonia No. 15—J.S. Bach/arr. Shirl Jae Atwell. The last of a collection of 15 sinfonias for clavier, this wonderfully scored arrangement for advanced string orchestra will stretch your players' technical boundaries, teach subdivision, and expand their knowledge of Baroque repertoire. 11402162 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . MA 40.00 11402190 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 8.00 Symphony No. 2, Mvt. 2—William Grant Still/ arr. Todd Parrish. Premiered in 1937 by the Philadelphia Orchestra, this symphony, subtitled "Song of a New Race," infuses elements of blues and jazz into the classical form, creating a uniquely blended sound to reflect Stills' vision of an increasingly diverse American culture.
