Jumpin' at the Woodside—Count Basie/

builds! Rich DeRosa keeps this Count Basie
signature tune swinging all the way and includes
two optional tag endings to keep the Basie style
intact. The solos are written out for piano, tenor
sax, trumpet and trombone and the lead trumpet
range is to written G on top of the staff with an
A on the optional tag ending. Optional parts are

Count's finest!

Moanin'—Bobby Timmons/arr. Mark Taylor.
Your piano player will get some well-deserved
attention in this familiar Bobby Timmons'
chart. The saxes grab the melody from the
piano, and everyone gets in on the action for
some real nice moments in the chorus. Written
solos are included for piano, tenor and/or
trumpet. The quality of Mark's arranging on this
really lets you sell it!

My Funny Valentine—Richard Rodgers/
arr. Mike Smukal. Richard Rodgers and Lorenz
Hart gave the jazz world this beautiful ballad, and
arranger Mike Smukal sets it as a lush trumpet
or flugelhorn solo feature. The entire solo is
notated and can effectively be performed with no
improvisation. It also features a wonderful double-
time section with everything written out, easy
ranges, some nice substitute chords and lush
harmonies. This arrangement includes optional
parts for flute, horn in F, baritone and tuba. This is
an exceptional chart at an accessible level! Highly
recommended!

Runaway Baby—arr. Paul Murtha. Recorded
by Bruno Mars, this contemporary rock tune is
actually a throwback to an earlier time reminiscent
of the James Brown funk style. Featuring an
energetic pulse that never quits along with a
catchy melody, this chart is a real showstopper!
The solo section includes options for alto, trumpet,
or trombone with suggested solos and scale/chord
sheets in all keys. Pure excitement!

Sing, Sing, Sing—Louie Prima/arr. Victor
Lopez. Yep, this is the Sing, Sing, Sing you know
and love, made famous by Gene Krupa and the
Benny Goodman Orchestra, only arranged for
young players by Victor Lopez. The classic drum
solo that can be opened up for as much excitement
as the crowd can stand, along with a written-out
tenor solo, reasonable brass ranges and lots of
meaty ensembles keep this great chart exciting.
It will also sound full with reduced instrumentation
or with the optional, non-jazz band parts. It's still a
showstopper! Highly recommended!

sounding feature for any vocalist!

Vehicle—James Peterik/arr. Ralph Ford. Here's
a powerhouse arrangement of this rock classic
that will motivate your students and excite your
audiences. It's got plenty of solid full-band writing
as well as sectional solis and trades. Trombone 1
is featured for a chorus with a written-out solo and
a brief cadenza, and the lead trumpet range is up
to an optional written A. This is a must-have rock
chart that is highly recommended!

and a band pleaser... a win-win! Fun, funky,
hip, groovy— call it what you want, this chart is
excellent in every way... and if you have a decent
bari player, he or she will really love this one.
There are written solos for alto and tenor sax, a
stop-time without rhythm section for the saxes,
a fantastic interlude section, a monster shout
chorus, and some short drum fills... what's not
to like!? Very highly recommended! Optional
expanded instrumentation.

M E D I U M
Birdland—Josef Zawinul/arr. Victor Lopez. Just
listen to this chart and you know you have to have
it as Victor Lopez brings the original Weather
Report version to life for jazz ensembles. All the
ingredients are here, plus solo space (written or
improvised) for alto 1 and/or trumpet 2, nice chord
voicings throughout, and the lead trumpet top note
is only a written G on top of the staff. Very easy to
assemble and perform, this will be a hit every time!

The Chicken—Alfred James Ellis/arr. Kris
Berg. If you've got a strong bassist, this is your
showstopper! This chart, made famous by bass
virtuoso Jaco Pastorius, gets kicking with a killer
gospel chorale, but is soon interrupted by one
of the funkiest bass lines ever played! Soon the
entire band is in on it with a Tower of Power-style
sound that is sure to impress everyone listening!

Feeling Good—Bricusse & Newley/arr. Roger
Holmes. From the Broadway musical "The Roar
of the Greasepaint - The Smell of the Crowd," this
fabulous standard is popular again with a stunning
rendition by Michael Buble. Capturing the bluesy
flavor of this version, here is a vocal solo feature
sure to bring down the house. It can also be used
as an alto sax feature. Highly recommended!

Feels So Good—Chuck Mangione/arr. Victor
Lopez. Only rarely does a jazz tune cross over
to the pop charts the way this Chuck Mangione
classic did back in the seventies! Flugelhorn solo
on the 1st trumpet part is featured throughout with
the distinctive melody and then with a written or ad
lib solo along with a tenor solo. The flugelhorn solo
range is up to an optional written high C, but the
solo is cued on the 1st tenor part as well. Victor's
arrangement brings this contemporary gem within
the range of the developing trumpet player without
losing any of the hip appeal of the original. Here's
a perennially appealing, samba/rock chart that will
provide outstanding performance opportunities for
your band and soloist! Highly recommended!

Honk—Jeff Jarvis. Ever since the widespread
popularity of the Jeff Jarvis funk original Critical
Mass, requests for a sequel have been pouring
in. At last, Jeff has composed and arranged
Honk, with all the characteristics that made its
predecessor such a hit with jazz ensembles,
only at a slightly more accessible level. Like
Critical Mass, Honk begins with a cool sax
section introduction, clearly placing your baritone
saxophonist in the limelight, but without excessive
technical demands. Everyone has interesting
and challenging parts to play throughout and the
modulation near the end gives it an extra, added
lift. The solos are open and the backgrounds can
be varied by instrumentation. This one is hot from
beginning to end! Very highly recommended!

Moanin'—Charles Mingus/arr. Andrew Homzy.
Here's a playable yet very effective arrangement
of this signature Mingus composition. The familiar
baritone sax riff is handled by three saxes, and
there is also a substantial soli for the entire
saxophone section. Optional parts are included
for flute, clarinet and French horn. A terrific
introduction to the genius of Mingus!
