How Great Our Joy!—arr. Lloyd Larson. Music
will burst onto the scene with this triumphant
arrangement of the traditional German carol.

I Wonder As I Wander—John Jacob Niles/
arr. Hart Morris. John Jacob Niles was born
in Kentucky and had a keen interest in the
folk tunes that were heard throughout the
Appalachian mountain region, and as an
avocation, collected and wrote down many of
these folk tunes. The story goes that he heard
a bit of this melody while in eastern North
Carolina and was inspired to create this now-
famous Christmas song. Hart was asked to
arrange this lovely tune for harp and handbells
and together they are a perfect combination of
texture and tone for an enchantingly beautiful
setting. Singing bell, LVs, delicate random rings,
and gentle malleted notes support the melody,
which is featured in both instruments. Perfectly
placed nuances in tempo and dynamics plus a
lovely segue to a key change will engage the
listener throughout. If a harp is not available,
keyboard or synthesizer with a digital harp
sound may be used. This is a very special
arrangement that is sure to become a favorite
addition to your Christmas handbell repertoire!

soon joined by whole-note chords using tower
swings to suggest "frosty winds made moan."
The second appearance of the tune expresses
the simplicity of the final verse of the poem:
"Yet what I can I give Him: give my heart."

the well-known tune underscored by flowing
sixteenth notes. Unexpected harmonies
appear prominently throughout the piece,

points provide a respite from the relentless
accompaniment figures. The melody moves

Night of Stars (Creator of the Stars of Night)
—arr. Bruce W. Tippette. As night begins to
show itself, one by one the stars slowly twinkle.
In this arrangement, the stars are represented
by the random ringing of handbells while the
original hymn tune
CONDITOR ALME SIDREUM is
rung underneath. A low open-fifth drone creates
an ethereal atmosphere, perfect for setting the
tone for any church service, especially during
Advent. The piece concludes very much as it
begins, with the night stars fading away into the
half-light of dawn.
