Love
A Gospel Christmas Celebration
for SATB Choirs

This gospel-flavored musical reflects on the promise
of peace delivered by the angels on the night of
Jesus's birth. An original composition, Love Is
Born, is used as musical bookends: its theme is
briefly stated in the second movement and returns
in full-blown gospel style at the end to provide an
emotion-filled climax. In between, the Christmas
story is told through scriptural narration and familiar
carols set in a variety of styles ranging from jazz to
gospel to calypso. Accompaniment can be provided
by piano, full orchestra, or a smaller set of rhythm
parts, arranged by Ed Hogan. Performance time
approx. 35 min. Contents: 1. Love Is Born; 2. Lift Up
Your Eyes; 3. King of Love and Light; 4. Love
Came Down at Christmas; 5. Away in a Manger;
6. Christmas Joy (Go, Tell It on the Mountain; Rise

the old is gone and the new has come. Through
the birth of this tiny baby, the promise of eternal
life is now given to anyone who will receive God's
message of salvation through faith. Using a blend of
familiar lyrics and melodies coupled with compelling
original material, this cantata celebrates the timeless
story in a unique and memorable way. Orchestrated
by Ed Hogan, there are numerous accompaniment
options from piano-only to live instruments to a
recorded track. Well supported and beautifully
crafted, this 30-minute offering is a perfect option for
choirs of any size that wish to start, or restart,
a Christmas cantata tradition.
