The Unclouded Day—J.K. Alwood/arr. Brian
Seemann. The setting of this cherished gospel
hymn begins with singing bell and a serene
unison statement of the melody. It quickly
moves into an upbeat country-style rhythmic
mode that incorporates mallets and other
stopped techniques. Each verse is unique,
but the refrain is always full and satisfying. For

Variations on the Doxology—arr. Sondra
K. Tucker.
OLD HUNDREDTH is featured in
this knockout arrangement. A straightforward
chorale setting leads into an energetic toccata
section, then an easy fughetta morphs into
the brilliant finale. There are a few rhythmic
challenges in the final section, making this a
learning piece for your developing choir. Only
one shared bell (G#Ab5) and bass ringers -
pay attention to the assignment suggestion!

When Morning Gilds the Skies—arr. Sondra
K. Tucker. The beautiful hymn tune LAUDES
DOMINI
appears in over 600 hymnals and has
been arranged hundreds of times for a variety
of choral and instrumental settings. This fresh
setting begins with pealing bells that fill us with
the joy of a new morning and another praise-
filled day. Beginning in C major, the treble
descending LV passages provide a constant
backdrop for the hymn melody rung by bells,
then handchimes (three octaves). This final
section is rich and majestic, and the addition
of nicely placed shakes brings the amazing
setting to a glorious end. This is must-have
worship and concert repertoire!

A Maritime Christmas—
arr. Caleb J. Onstead.
This creative arrangement combines Joy to the
World (ANTIOCH),
I SAW THREE SHIPS, and IN
DULCI JUBILO
in an exciting setting perfect for your
next holiday or Christmas concert! It begins quite
simply with singing bell and hints of the melody
to come. The interplay among the three tunes is
engaging, lyrical, and rhythmic, and the segues
between sections are seamless and interesting in
their own right. A nice mix of ringing and malleting
with a few stopped sounds adds to the expression.
This will be a fun and rewarding addition to your
intermediate repertoire.

The Holly and the Ivy—arr. Sandra Eithun.

Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day—
arr. Kevin McChesney.
This English carol, which dates from the 1600s, is
a predecessor to Lord of the Dance as the lyrics
are spoken from Jesus' viewpoint and describe
aspects of His life as a dance. Several variations
of this theme with different dancelike qualities take
ringers and listeners through a lovely journey of
Christ's life. Meter changes dictate the level, as
there are few bell changes. Consider programming
this piece as it is beautiful, musical, and magical.

Ukrainian Fantasy—arr. Marquise Usher.
Here is an amazingly creative and exciting setting
of the Ukrainian folk tune Shchedryk which will
be a fun challenge for your advanced group. The
repetitive ostinato four-note pattern is present
throughout, but there are unexpected variations
that are sure to excite the audience and keep
the musicians focused on the changing rhythmic
patterns. At tempo, this could be a Level 5;
however, reducing the tempo a few clicks should
make it accessible to solid Level 4 groups.
