Ecce Ancilla (from Magnificat)—Michael
John Trotta. A simple prayer of a servant, this
a cappella work masterfully captures Mary's
response to the angel Gabriel. "Behold, I am
the servant of the Lord. May it be done to me
according to your will." A translation allows this
work to be performed in Latin or English.

Et in Terra Pax—John Purifoy. The angel's
powerful proclamation "peace on earth" is
artfully delivered in this unique choral for the
holiday season. Quiet echoes of "Glorias"
and whispered prayers for peace tie in
beautifully with the Christmas message. Highly
expressive, this work is a timely message that
is meaningful for December concerts and
worship services.

Fantasia on Christmas Carols—Ralph
Vaughan Williams. A fantasia in the truest
sense, this choral tapestry of English carols
was composed in 1912 after Vaughan
Williams had completed the scores for his first
symphony (The Sea), and the Tallis Fantasia.
In this relatively short work for baritone soloist,
chorus and orchestra, we find the essence of
Vaughan Williams' style and compositional
mastery - hallmarks of a richly productive
artistic output that defined a nationalist
movement in music that continues to this
day. Centered on four traditional carols: The
Truth Sent from Above; Come All You Worthy
Gentlemen; On Christmas Night and There Is
a Fountain, it also features fragments of other
well-known carol tunes.

Far Away in a Manger—Kevin Keil. Two
well-known hymn tunes for the carol Away in
a Manger,
CRADLE SONG and MUELLER, are
creatively and effectively brought together in
this compact arrangement. Almost a partner
song, an original refrain is presented followed
by alternating lines of the two carol melodies
which then come together at the end. This
anthem is ideal for smaller choirs and
appealing to the listener, making this a favored
addition to any choir's repertoire.

The First Nowell—Matthew Culloton. This
setting of the beloved Christmas carol alternates
the traditional melody with original material that
beautifully illuminates the text. From beginning
to end, the silky smooth flow continues as the
choral texture varies, sometimes alternating
SA and TB, sometimes divisi, sometimes a
cappella. The choral sonorities are breathtaking
and the piano accompaniment captivating.
A marvelous choice for holiday concerts or
Christmas worship.

For Unto Us—John Randall Dennis. Text
and tune combine to create a gentle, innocent
anthem that tells the Christmas story in a simple
manner. While optional, a children's choir used
for the verses will underscore the childlike and
lilting nature of the song. The optional flute
obbligato adds the perfect final touch.

Gloria and Alleluia—Ruth Elaine Schram.
Two short contrasting movements may either
stand on their own or combine into one longer
setting. The Gloria setting is upbeat, rhythmic,
and fanfare-like, while the Alleluia is quiet,
introspective and set in a minor key. Both are
lovely a cappella settings that are achievable
by choirs in a school or church setting.

Glory to God in the Highest Heaven!—Lloyd
Larson. The angels are definitely singing in the
skies in this energetic anthem of Christmas
praise! Driving rhythms contrast with a brief
legato section which gives way to a snippet of
the beloved carol Angels We Have Heard on
High. Shimmering with fresh music and lyrics,
this anthem is a marvelous Christmas addition
to any service or concert.
