Be Who You Are—Ryan Main. Framed as a
letter from a teacher to her young students,
this text is brimming with descriptive phrases
and inspirational thoughts. The musical setting
partners with the youthful exuberance of the
text with creative rhythms and a contemporary
pop feel that young choirs will really like. "The
world needs your light, this place needs your
song. Never be sorry to be who you are."

Bend—Kyle Pederson. The text of this
powerful choral work is addressed to anyone
facing struggles and it presents an honest
affirmation that those struggles are real. Rather
than deny the existence of problems or pain,
the listener is encouraged to "lean into" the
hardship, to name it-and to thereby reduce its
power. Textually and musically, the listener is
presented with the metaphor of a tree-being
whipped by the wind but built to bend in that
wind, and ultimately withstand the pressure-
filled gales. The power of community is also
affirmed, as the listener is encouraged to walk
alongside and to bend along with their neighbor.

Better Be a Seed—Ryan Main. This setting
of an original text by poet Rye Lanae Boothe
is moving and inspiring. Listeners will feel
encouraged to persevere through the weight of
life's challenges, for it may be the very soil in
which a seed can bloom.

Beyond Light—Christi Jones. Based on the
sixth-century writing of Greek philosopher
Dionysius the Areopagite describing the higher
consciousness found beyond the light, this
unique concert work offers the opportunity
to explore the Eastern melodic scale and
harmonies. Beautiful lyrical lines for both voice
parts combine into a captivating texture that is
sure to inspire.

The Bird's Lullaby—Sarah Quartel. Inspired
by the text of poet E. Pauline Johnson, Sarah
Quartel has created an energetic and fun piece
for a cappella voices. Melodic elements and
counter melodies are shared between the voices
in a conversational style while the background
vocables create the texture. Concert music with
a contemporary a cappella feel, it will appeal to
good high school or collegiate choirs.

Black Riders Came from the Sea (Dum Digga-
Digga Dum)—Paul David Thomas. Beginning
with an ominous ostinato from the choir, "dum
digga digga dum," this piece sets Stephen
Crane's short but vivid poem describing the
invasion of a fast-approaching enemy army.
An engaging concert work for developing tenor-
bass choirs that they're sure to like!

The Book of Boba Fett (Main Title Theme)—
Ludwig Goransson/arr. Roger Emerson. During
the wait between Disney+'s "The Mandalorian"
seasons two and three, viewers got to see
just what had been going on with Star Wars'
favorite bounty hunter, Boba Fett. Composing
the main theme of the new series was film-
scoring heavyweight Ludwig Goransson.
Featuring guttural shouts and wordless
bellows, this is an outstanding feature for your
tenor-bass choir!

The Bouquet—Kara Stacy Bedwell. This is not
your typical treble song about flowers and love!
No, this time Jack has met his match and gets
a lot more than he bargained for. This cheeky
madrigal-like modern concert work employs
a mischievous tone with the opportunity
for both musical expression and comedy.

A Boy and a Girl—Eric Whitacre. A tender,
delicate, exquisite poem by Octavio Paz is
the inspiration for this superb a cappella piece
by Eric Whitacre. "Stretched out, stretched
out on the grass, a boy and a girl savoring
their oranges, giving their kisses like waves
exchanging foam..."

Breathe—Coleman Peterson. Drawing on
our shared humanity, this original work from
new composer Peterson encourages us to
confront the isolationism that's becoming
prevalent in our world due to so many crises,
fears, and uncertainty and instead revel in the
simple beauty of just being together to breathe
and live. Featuring the inner voices with altos
carrying the melody throughout, the warm
a cappella divisi texture invites both singers
and listeners in to take part in a breathtaking
musical experience. Stunning!
