Cook Strait Crossing—Laura Estes. Based
on a true story from New Zealand, this piece
presents a wonderful opportunity for historical
lesson plans as well as material for contest
and festival performance. An ominous opening
sets the stage for expressive alto and flute soli
(either can be played as a solo). This gives way
to a dignified and pronounced theme in three
with melodic opportunities for both woodwinds
and brass before coming to a strong ending.

independent percussion playing. A fun choice

beginning band. It uses only six notes, but is
brash and forceful, with many exciting eighth-
note rhythms and bold harmonies. The limited
amount of notes will allow you to concentrate
on preparing a more musical and decisive
performance. Declaration And Dance is a great
choice for festival use, but it's also superb for
concerts...parents will be amazed at how
advanced the band sounds!

combination of instruments)—arr. Patrick
Roszell. The union of this glorious traditional
Irish folk song with the compelling poem has
been popular for generations. This expressive
setting is lyrical in nature and really displays the
expressive and somewhat melancholy nature
of the endearing melody. It provides numerous
teaching opportunities for slurring, phrasing,
intonation, and dynamic shading. This flexible
version comes with supplemental parts and
permission is granted to photocopy as needed.

available as a free download. String parts have
been edited with extra fingerings and bowings
