First published in 1989, this work has become a proven band classic. With the first statement of the theme played by a solo flute accompanied by vibes and bells, this very musical, sensitive set of variations spotlights woodwind and brass choirs and also includes a Bach-like fugue variation. Truly symphonic band writing at its best. 2215754 Band Set & Score . . . . . . . .80.00 Voices of the Sky—Samuel Hazo. The many qualities and changes in appearance of the sky are translated into musical moods through this expressive work. The opening lyric section flows between soloistic and full ensemble playing and leads to a "sinister" fast section of driving rhythms and mixed meter that crescendos to a powerful new setting of the original melody to close the work. Impeccable timing and emotional pacing sustain and propel this effective work. 10005344 Band Set & Score . . . . . . . .75.00 Voyager—Hunter Gregory. An energetic tour de force from start to finish. This piece uses carefully designed eighth-note ostinato patterns and driving percussion to keep the momentum going whether it be a full-on ensemble or a brass or woodwind feature. All instruments have engaging parts that are well written to their strengths. Even the trumpets and horns get to show off a little technical prowess. A perfect choice as an opener or closer. 11393487 Band Set & Score . . . . . . . .75.00 Wayfaring Stranger—arr. Christopher M. Nelson. This lush and colorful setting of the folk song Poor Wayfaring Stranger grabs hold of your heart and doesn't let go until the final notes of the piece. Masterful orchestration and innovative yet sensitive treatment of the original folk song characterize this arrangement, which is sure to become a classic work for wind band. Exquisite! 10535895 Band Set & Score . . . . . . . .89.00 We May Rise—arr. Preston Hazzard. This tender melody was originally a choral work entitled All Praise to Thee with text based on a chorale written by Martin Luther and first published in 1524. This wonderfully musical melody has been beautifully reimagined for this outstanding work for wind band. The wide variety of instrumental colors is extremely effective in capturing and enhancing the rich harmonies and haunting melody of the original. 10910750 Band Set & Score . . . . . . . .75.00 The Wellerman Come (A New Zealand Sailing Song)—Travis J. Weller. Inspired by the wildly popular New Zealand sailing song Soon May the Wellerman Come, this outstanding work takes us on an epic journey with the captain and the ship's energetic crew. Moments of peril intertwine with chants of victory as the struggle unfolds. A superb change of pace for any concert, and a fantastic closer as well! 11399688 Band Set & Score . . . . . . . .80.00 West Highlands Sojourn—Robert Sheldon. Inspired by the composer's journey through the western hill country of England and Wales, this delightful piece borrows from folk melodies he heard on a river near the Scottish border. The three sections of the piece provide very effective contrast and, with Sheldon's artful scoring, this is an excellent choice for concert or contest. Splendid! 2284255 Band Set & Score . . . . . . . .76.00 Where the Waters Meet (O Waly, Waly)—arr. Carol Brittin Chambers. Feature a trombonist and trumpet player with this beautiful adaptation of O Waly, Waly. Lush harmonies, emotional moments of impact, and fine percussion writing make this more than a simple lyrical piece. The climactic moment results in a beautiful chorale that brings out the colors of the ensemble. An excellent choice! 11346090 Band Set & Score . . . . . . . .75.00 Whisper to Their Souls—Samuel R. Hazo. Here is a unique and creative setting of the familiar tune Greensleeves (What Child Is This?) that opens with the melody scored softly for the woodwinds. The full ensemble contributes a series of harmonically rich phrases until the work reaches and emotional climax at the powerfully scored key change. While this is certainly effective as a holiday offering, it can be performed as a memorable tone poem any time of the year. 10051805 Band Set & Score . . . . . . . .75.00 Wicklow—Laura Estes. This original folk- sounding work is packed with opportunities for historical study as well as historically accurate instruments. Percussionists are highlighted prominently and will enjoy the variety of instruments used in this piece. The original melodies and a spirited percussion feature do justice to the vast musical culture of the Emerald Isle! 11346092 Band Set & Score . . . . . . . .85.00 Winds of Change—Randall Standridge. Winds that flow across the landscape now provide energy - and the inspiration for this piece. The quiet introduction depicts the great open spaces that stretch for miles as gentle morning breezes begin. Small gusts of wind, represented by scale passages and arpeggiated figures, dance across the landscape. The pace picks up until the music soars, much like the wind racing across the land, turning the turbines and charging exuberantly towards the future. 10604532 Band Set & Score . . . . . . . .85.00 Winter Festival—Matthew Donnelly. What says "winter" more than children sledding down snow-covered hills? In the cold winter months, there's no better way to spend a Saturday than getting outside on a toboggan. Brilliant scales and rhythmic parts for all make this an excellent opener for a winter concert. 11401110 Band Set & Score . . . . . . . .75.00 The Wishing Well—Rossano Galante. The Wishing Well depicts a touching musical scene of a child approaching a well and making a wish. The music ebbs and flows utilizing solos and full ensemble to describe the water at the bottom of the well. As we reach the climax, the main theme is stated as the child tosses the coin into the well with the hope the wish will be granted. 11001740 Band Set & Score . . . . . . . .75.00 With Each Sunset (Comes the Promise of a New Day)—Richard Saucedo. Composed with delicate orchestrations and tender melodies, this work presents an uplifting setting for concerts and festivals. A mixture of soloists and ensemble scoring is employed as well as careful pacing to provide emotional peaks and releases. Simply gorgeous! 2481704 Band Set & Score . . . . . . . .70.00 With Heart and Voice—David Gillingham. This is exhilarating! Top clinicians and conductors consistently turn to this composer for expertly crafted, intensely emotional compositions, and this one is a superb example of his work. Your audience will respond enthusiastically! Highly recommended! 2471454 Band Set & Score . . . . . . .120.00 Ye Banks and Braes O' Bonnie Doon— Percy Grainger. This is a real gem! In the typically understated style of Percy Grainger, this delightful work, originally published in 1936, is incredibly nice. Disarmingly easy from a technical point of view, and only two minutes long, this is an excellent way to showcase a mature band. 2115277 Band Set & Score . . . . . . . .70.00 Yorkshire Ballad—James Barnes/arr. Clarence E. Barber. A flexible ensemble arrangement based on the second edition rescored by the composer, playable by any SSATB combination of woodwind, brass, and string players with optional percussion. Since its publication, it has become one of the composer's most popular works and has been arranged for a variety of ensembles. The composer writes, "I composed this little piece so that younger players would have the opportunity to play a piece that is more or less in the style of [Grainger's] Irish Tune from County Derry." 11355739 Band Set & Score . . . . . . . .60.00 Sound Leadership Leadership Curriculum for Music Students Scott Lang.
