I Left My Heart in San Francisco—arr. Quincy
Jones. Quincy Jones wrote some incredible
arrangements on very popular tunes for the
Count Basie Orchestra. As recorded on This
Time By Basie, Quincy's arrangement of I
Left My Heart in San Francisco features great
interplay between the ensemble playing the
melody, and the piano with written solo fills.
With a tempo around 108 bpm, and a relaxed
swing feel, there's also short solo space for
tenor saxophone, and the ranges are very
moderate. This chart is playable by a lot of
bands. It's a true classic! Highly recommended!

swinging chart is a tribute to the legendary

blues with serious attitude! It comes out of the
gate roaring and includes plenty of interesting
details that make this a standout chart for
high school bands. Great dynamic contrasts

Kick It Up—Rich Woolworth. What a happy
swing chart! It starts with the full ensemble and
lots of drum fills before moving into a gentle
piano statement of the melody. Then the
trombones start their "kicks," soon joined by the

and trumpet followed by a shout chorus and
more drum fills. The saxes restate the melody,
and then the whole ensemble joins in for a full-
blown finish. The lead trumpet plays up to a
high D, and the lead trombone plays a G.
