Kodaly in the Classroom (Developing the
Creative Brain in the 21st Century)—
Micheal Houlahan & Philip Tacka. This
provides teachers with a step-by-step road
map for developing children's performance,
movement, and literacy skills in an organic
and thoughtful manner. This creates a
system appropriate for the developmental
stages of first through fifth grade students,
and also integrates vertically between
elementary music classes. The methods
encourage greater musical ability and
creativity in children by teaching them to
sing, move, play instruments, and develop
music literacy skills. In addition, they
promote critical thinking, problem solving,
and collaboration skills. Although the books
use the Kodaly philosophy, its methodology
