STRING ORCHESTRA Editors' Choice 2023 New Basic Library Available via ePrint Downloadable All Prices in U.S. Dollars & Subject To Publisher Revision 24 Go to cart CLASSICAL SELECTIONS medium-advanced & advanced Fugue for String Orchestra (from "String Quartet, Op. 8")—Paul Creston. Paul Creston's writing has been a hallmark of contemporary American music, ranging from chamber and orchestral music to stage and film music. This movement remains one of his most notable for school string orchestra, adapted from a string quartet by the composer himself. Here's a perfect opportunity to introduce your students to fugal writing in a contemporary style. 2052033 String Orchestra . . . . . . A 50.00 2107076 String Pack/ Additional String Set . . . . . . . 6.00 5743992 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 7.00 Ghosts of Brandenburg—Richard Meyer. Imagine a fantasy based on all six of the Brandenburg Concerti! This arrangement captures the spirit of the original works, but sets most of them in minor keys or uses darker tones, pizzicato, and meter changes J.S. Bach may never have imagined. This is inventive and challenging work will take your intermediate strings on a nine-minute journey that will build their endurance along with their musicality. 10050371 String Orchestra . . . . MA 62.00 10050372 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 8.00 Hebrides Overture—Felix Mendelssohn/ arr. Jason Librande. Now string orchestras alone can enjoy this massive work of the orchestral repertoire for contest or any concert performance. Mendelssohn's classic melody follows the ebb and flow of the ocean waves as each section adds its voice to a vivid musical portrait. The overture requires skill in bow control and ensemble work with advanced rhythms, but the result is dynamic and just as compelling as its counterpart for full orchestra. 10280407 String Orchestra . . . . MA 55.00 10280408 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 8.00 Hoe Down (from "Rodeo")—Aaron Copland. Hoe Down has become one of Aaron Copland's most recognized orchestral works. Here is the string orchestra version based on the original, for advanced string players. 167221 String Orchestra . . . . . . A 45.50 2476148 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 8.95 The Inner Planets (Themes from Mercury, Venus, and Mars)—Gustav Holst/arr. Carrie Lane Gruselle. This cleverly titled work includes three famous themes from "The Planets." The swooping, fluttery sounds of Mercury, the Winged Messenger give way to the mystical tone clusters and serenity of Venus, the Bringer of Peace. The arrangement closes with the iconic militant ostinato and dissonance of Mars, the Bringer of War. 11203131 String Orchestra . . . . MA 65.00 11203132 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 6.00 L'estro Armonico—Antonio Vivaldi/arr. Bob Lipton. Originally written as a concerto for two violins, cello and strings, the piece was later arranged by Bach as a concerto for solo organ. This thoughtful arrangement draws on both versions and showcases the genius of these two giants. 10454281 String Orchestra . . . . MA 60.00 10454314 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 5.00 L'Italiana in Algeri Overture—Gioachino Rossini/arr. Andrew H. Dabczynski. Rossini's lighthearted and engaging melodies make this an ideal selection for concert or festival programs. 11202325 String Orchestra . . . . MA 56.00 11202326 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 7.00 Larghetto and Allegro from Sinfonia in G Major—Johann Stamitz/arr. Robert D. McCashin. Written in the 'Manheim' style (utilizing unique dynamic effects) and completed sometime between 1741 and 1746, Stamitz's Symphony No. 3 is actually likely his first completed symphony. It was attributed to Stamitz; only it may have, in fact, been completed by a close friend and contemporary composer, Antoine Mahaut (a Flemish composer and flutist). It is in the key of G Major. The Larghetto needs to be connected smooth and 'fluid' throughout. Shifting to the Allegro, be sure to bring out the moving lines in the upper voices. The lower voices need to be accentuated and cleanly articulated. Be sure to perform the dynamics with dedication. 11355591 String Orchestra . . . . MA 75.00 11355592 Additional Score . . . . . . . . .15.00 New World Symphony—Antonin Dvorak/ arr. Deborah Baker Monday. Not only an excellent vehicle for teaching, but also a top-notch selection for festival performances. 10454944 String Orchestra . . . . The original work excludes the original wind parts, and playing the Rondo-finale will introduce your students to rondo form. 11201857 String Orchestra . . . . MA 55.00 11201858 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 8.00 Saint Paul's Suite—Gustav Holst. Firmly rooted in the standard violin repertoire, Symphonie Espagnole is a brilliant work that showcases the violin's lyrical beauty and technical virtuosity with a Spanish style. After keeping the opening solo passage, the powerful melodies are then passed throughout the orchestra. The first movement is arranged here for string orchestra, shortened and simplified for playability. However, Lalo's original fiery masterpiece comes through clearly.
