Mele Kalikimaka is the closest approximation of saying "Merry Christmas" in the Hawaiian language. This lighthearted tune was written in 1949 and recorded by Bing Crosby and The Andrew Sisters in 1950, a version still popular today. Beginning the titular syncopated melody on an up-bow helps create accents and fun. Familiar accidentals give the piece color, and every section has independent entrances with a chance to play the main melodies and important supporting parts. A fun and musically educational way to celebrate the holiday season! 10844314 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .55.00 A Midwinter Fantasy—Gustav Holst/arr. Morgan Denney. This arrangement of In the Bleak Midwinter captures the sentiment of the holidays by placing Holst's beautiful melody in a lush string orchestra atmosphere. Each section contributes with lyrical motives and nuanced harmonies while students have the opportunity to practice bow distribution, tone, and balance. 10877023 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .45.00 The North Pole Express—arr. Kathryn Griesinger. Take a sparkling ride through the snow aboard an express train headed straight for the North Pole. Students can work on staccato bow technique, easy dotted rhythms, and low second- and low first-finger patterns, all while staying in first position. Be sure to use the included percussion and train whistle to make the journey come alive. 11349256 String Orchestra, Percussion Optional . . . . . .55.00 Themes from The Nutcracker—P.I. Tchaikovsky/arr. Carrie Lane Gruselle. A great choice for the holidays or any time of year! These timeless melodies are set entirely in first position. Directors will enjoy the great deal of performance flexibility as they program the entire work or choose from individual selections to customize a program. 10008676 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .55.00 Santa the Barbarian—Randall Standridge. Ho! Ho! Hurraaaaagh! The jolly old elf from the North Pole gets an aggressive makeover in this wonderfully tongue-in-cheek work. Beginning with narration in the style of a movie trailer, Santa is reimagined as a warrior from the winter wastelands as Up on the Housetop; Jingle Bells and Jolly Old St. Nicholas are given a barbaric twist. Sure to be the hit of your next winter concert! 11521162 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .55.00 Season's Greetings—arr. Deborah Baker Monday. Kick off the holiday season with a festive Hanukkah piece that ends with Deck the Halls! This arrangement explores "gypsy-style" music at an ever-changing, whirling dance tempo, and the traditional and joyous finale pulls it all together at the end. 11202306 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .48.00 Shed a Sweet Light (Hanukkah)—arr. Cleo Goldberg. Two fun and upbeat Jewish dances sung during the celebration of Hanukkah. Younger string musicians will play a few low first fingers, pizzicato, and simple sixteenth- note rhythms. All sections have interesting parts. Perfect for adding diversity to your holiday programming. 11402161 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .40.00 Sleigh Ride—Leroy Anderson/arr. Bob Cerulli. There's nothing quite like a Leroy Anderson number to set a positive mood, and this holiday favorite is certainly no exception! The original style and harmonies are there, though simplified for young players, and it takes only minimal rehearsal time to prepare! This is nice! It's playable by full or string orchestra. 2246130 String or Full Orchestra . . .70.00 Snowfall at Dusk—Aaron Fryklund. This elegant and nostalgic piece depicts gentle snow falling as twilight fades on a winter's eve. The legato theme features slurred phrases and sustained pedal-tone pitches to help develop tone and bow-control skills. The contrasting staccato section sparkles like snowflakes in the golden sun, with easy meter changes and a playful syncopated feel before ending with a soft diminuendo. 11202225 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .55.00 Snowflake—Yukiko Nishimura. Floating and delicate, this gorgeous piece features long melody lines and plenty of sustaining harmonies. It evokes the feeling of taking a walk during a gentle snowfall. The first violin part leads with the main melody, as the other sections have an inner melody. Each line should be played espressivo at all times. A stunning selection for winter concerts. 10093756 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .55.00 Stille Nacht—Franz Gruber/arr. Douglas E. Wagner. The beloved Christmas carol receives a unique treatment in this arrangement for string orchestra. The tune is heard twice: the first time, it is paired with a motive from the Prelude of J.S. Bach's Cello Suite No. 1; the second time, the melody shifts from part to part, giving everyone a chance to shine. Unique phrasing and rich scoring make it warm and embracing, a real audience pleaser for your holiday concerts. (3:00) 11400618 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .50.00 'Twas the Night Before Christmas—arr. Bob Phillips. Peaceful scenes of quiet, gentle snow are reflected in this nostalgic melody for intermediate strings. A flowing legato theme evokes warm memories of innocence and joy as it moves between the sections, encouraging playing with sustained bows and beautiful tone. Moments of modulation use easy accidentals in first position to relay the magic of the season. Piano and bells add to the dreamlike quality of this serene concert selection for your winter concert. 10997994 String Orchestra, Percussion Optional . . . . . .55.00 That's What I Call Service "I ordered the music I needed, it was shipped the same afternoon, and I received it the next day!
