Legend of the Ghost Stallion—Richard
Meyer. This ode to the Wild West begins with a
mysterious introduction using the folk song All
the Pretty Little Horses. Brief solos for violin,
viola, and cello are heard before the driving
and energetic theme of the Ghost Stallion is
heard, riding through the moonlit countryside.
The repeated galloping rhythm appears in
stretches, designed to improve this important
bowing pattern. A picturesque selection, sure
to capture the imagination and improve the
technique of your orchestras!

ancient voices recall tales of forgotten glory,

stormy battle in the cello and bass sections
and builds to a victorious key change to A

Lotus—Yukiko Nishimura. Lotus, by Yukiko
Nishimura, was inspired by the flower. The
Lotus is known as a symbol of the sun because
it closes at night and reopens at dawn. This
stunning piece is full of dramatic harmonies
and flowing melodies. Each part offers the
opportunity for heartfelt and expressive
performance. An interesting fact about the
Lotus; when the flower blooms, it makes a
faint popping sound, though it's rare to hear
unaided. The composer uses pizzicato in the
lower instruments at the beginning of the piece
to invoke the sound of the bloom. (3:30)

Momentum—Richard Meyer. A great
choice for your next concert or contest! This
provides a wide variety of outstanding teaching
opportunities while using a fresh, contemporary
sound that your students will love! As the title
suggests, a driving, rhythmic pulse permeates
this modern original, but the piece incorporates
two diverse moods: a highly rhythmic first
section in B Minor, built on rising and falling
thirds, followed by a simple chorale in folk
song style. Once this slow material is passed
around the energy is re-established with earlier
material. A solid work for concert and contest.
