A short order cook is a professional who cooks and serves food rapidly and to order. They often work on a large flat-top griddle and work on multiple orders at a time. It is estimated that there are over 150,000 short order cooks in the USA. During a busy eating time, these cooks work with great speed under lots of pressure. The music captures the constant energy of the job. 11518926 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .50.00 11518927 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 6.00 Snowberry—Yukiko Nishimura. Spirit is a rousing piece in 6/8 time. It opens with a lush harmonic presentation of thematic material to set the mood before flying into a jaunty Celtic style romp. Dedicated to his wife Heather, composer Tyler Arcari has written a work that reflects the same strength and wonder for life that he sees in her. 11501889 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .70.00 11501890 Additional Score . . . . . . . . .12.00 Sunset Hill—Yukiko Nishimura. Day. Winner of the 2011 Texas Orchestra Directors Association Composition Contest, this mysterious sounding tango is written in the keys of C minor and D minor, with much consideration given to make sure all parts are fun to play, interesting, melodic, and dramatic! Distinctive tango rhythms, captivating minor melodies, and appealing chordal harmonies create an authentic Latin flavor. 10310529 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .48.00 10310530 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 9.00 Tango Traicionero—Kirt Mosier. Tango Traicionero, by Kirt Mosier, means "treacherous tango." The tango is a Latin dance that first developed in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in the mid-19th century. Imagine a gathering of bohemian nomads and workers having a dance party in the streets. There is a natural tension in this tango which mirrors the intoxicating nighttime atmosphere. All orchestra sections work together to perform slides and shifts between notes of the melodic figures to add intrigue to the sound. A lively middle section builds to a key change and recapitulation. The work culminates with tense chords to an exciting finish. (3:40) 11511855 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .65.00 11511934 Additional Score . . . . . . . . .10.00 A Tender Moment in Time—Adrian Gordon. Warm the hearts of audience and players alike with this beautiful original work that wonderfully captures the sincerity of human emotion in life's most delicate moments. An expressive melody set in the key of C floats on colorful harmonies designed to make a developing orchestra sound full. 11511795 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .65.00 11511874 Additional Score . . . . . . . . .10.00 Through the Dark Domain—Doug Spata. Long dramatic lines over driving eighth-note and sixteenth-note rhythms create a highly cinematic musical experience. A more lyrical middle section provides opportunity for expression. Written in the key of B-flat, this offers many opportunities for all sections to practice shifting. Optional harp part. 11354988 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .50.00 11354989 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 9.00 To Tame the Raging Rapids—Brian Balmages. Exhilarating! This work describes mankind's constant fascination with some of the most powerful forces in nature. As the work opens, the beauty of the water and its sound calms the listener. Soon, however, we plunge into the water and test ourselves against the raging rapids. Highly rhythmic and compelling, this work is destined to thrill all who perform it. Can your orchestra tame the untamable? 10047960 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .50.00 10047961 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 5.00 Torrent—Ted Allen. A storm of fiddle tunes and ostinatos portrays a flash flood rushing down a southwestern slot canyon in this fast- paced outing for advancing string orchestra. Conceived as an American response to the fourth movement of Gustav Holst's "St. Paul's Suite," Torrent is set in a lively 6/8 meter in minor pentatonic tonality. After the piece flows through a few fiddle-friendly keys, the first violins bring on the deluge with accessible third-position arpeggios. 11510731 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .70.00 11510754 Additional Score . . . . . . . . .10.00 Triumph—Armond Wimberly. Long melodic lines over heavy syncopated 16th-note figures accompanied by body slaps and foot stomps create an exciting musical landscape that young orchestras will want to experience over and over. The middle section provides a smooth contrast while keeping the tension building into an intense, climactic conclusion. 11339430 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .57.00 11339431 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 9.00 Two Scenes from the Hollow—Kirt Mosier. This two-movement piece is based on "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." The first section, entitled Ichabod's Walk, is introduced with lines from the American classic: "What fearful shapes and shadows beset his path amidst the dim and ghastly glare of a snowy night!" The second movement, entitled Hessian's Ride, is introduced with lines that end "...the apparition of a figure on horseback without a head. It is said by some to be the ghost of a Hessian trooper." The chilling music will be the highlight of your concert! Highly recommended! 10050296 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .65.00 10050298 Additional Score . . . . . . . . . . 6.00 A Utopian Fantasia—Anthony Granata. A beautifully majestic and serene landscape shrouded in mystery and wonder - set in the key of E minor, the opening features a rich legato ballad with an eerily somber melody passing through each section of the orchestra. The mood abruptly shifts to a jarring and heavily accented six-note motif. Reminiscent of Classical literature, a small contrapuntal passage develops this motif, interspersed with the original opening melody. Inversions of the theme finally give way to a call-and-response dialogue within the different sections of the orchestra before finally ending quietly and slowly with a subtle nod to the opening. 11511796 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . .65.00 11511875 Additional Score . . . . . . . . .10.00 Mutes & More A.
