March Phantasma—Randall Standridge. Looking
for a fresh and nontraditional march? Look no
further! This march creates a decidedly creepy
vibe while staying true to the traditional march
form. Minor modes, catchy melodies, and plentiful
percussion help make this an excellent and
unique selection for your next concert or festival
performance.

Slava March—Randall Standridge. "Slava,"
Ukrainian for "glory," serves as the inspiration
for this stirring Grade 2 concert march in minor
mode. Bold rhythms, active percussion, and
soaring countermelodies combine to create a
worthy vehicle for teaching march style to your
young musicians. Vocal effects add the final

Camelia City March—R. Alan Carter. Written
to celebrate Quitman, Georgia, nicknamed
"the Camellia City," this march is written in the
traditional style of Henry Fillmore. Starting with
a light, happy woodwind melody with simple
flourishes from the low brass, it then moves
through dynamic changes before a trio that
features low clarinets and euphonium with a
unique woodblock percussion accompaniment.
The march ends with a return to brass flourishes.
With minimal technical and range demands, this
work is accessible to a wide range of ensembles.
Use this work to teach the classic march style.

Marche Diabolique—Brian Balmages. This
sinister-sounding march is perfect for directors
looking for something completely different.
Using elements from a traditional march set in a
contemporary framework, the music is based on
tritone intervals surrounded by expansive, dark
harmonic language. A wealth of percussion adds
great color to the unsettling character of the music.
Quite effective and intriguing!

Sortofa March—Gary Garner. This unique-
sounding work began as an exercise intended to
acquaint woodwind players with essential alternate
fingerings on their respective instruments, but
it quickly and unexpectedly began to take on a
march-like character. Not exactly a march, but
"sort of a march." All sections enjoy exciting
and engaging parts. All woodwind parts have
suggested alternate fingerings.

standard of the repertoire is indeed a fine example
of the great tradition of concert marches. If you
have not yet performed it with your band, you
should definitely consider doing so. It's easy to

still going strong!

Fair Winds and Followig Seas—Steven
Rosenhaus. The saying "Fair winds and following
seas" is offered to sailors as a gesture of goodwill
and good luck to those who have served with
courage and integrity and will be missed. With
unexpected dissonances and jazzy harmonies,
this is a fresh take on the stylistic and harmonic
approach to the concert march while maintaining
the traditional form. A great change of pace.
