It starts with the full ensemble and lots of drum fills before moving into a gentle piano statement of the melody. Then the trombones start their "kicks," soon joined by the trumpets. There are written solos for tenor sax and trumpet followed by a shout chorus and more drum fills. The saxes restate the melody, and then the whole ensemble joins in for a full-blown finish. The lead trumpet plays up to a high D, and the lead trombone plays a G. 11516024 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 Moanin'—Charles Mingus/arr. Andrew Homzy. Here's a playable yet very effective arrangement of this signature Mingus composition. The familiar baritone sax riff is handled by three saxes, and there is also a substantial soli for the entire saxophone section. Optional parts are included for flute, clarinet and French horn. A terrific introduction to the genius of Mingus! 10041748 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 My Man Sam (for Sammy Nestico)—Gordon Goodwin. A tribute to the late, great, brilliant arranger and composer Sammy Nestico! This medium swing chart has written or improvised solos for trumpet, alto, tenor, and trombone. Superb writing provides sweet sax solis, great dynamic contrasts, and a wonderful shout chorus. Optional parts include flute, vibes, and more. Sammy would love this chart! 11355036 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . 52.00 No Harm/No Fowl—Kris Berg. Kris Berg's annual chicken chart has arrived! It is also a great chart for your rhythm section to develop that wonderful Basie sound and feel. A must for every jazz ensemble library! 545673 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 Shiny Stockings—Frank Foster/arr. Greg Yasinitsky. Frank Foster's composition Shiny Stockings is one of the greatest jazz tunes ever for big band. Arranged by Greg Yasinitsky and scored at an accessible level, this chart has all the ingredients you expect plus a few short section solis and an ensemble shout chorus. This arrangement stays very close to the original, yet is more accessible for developing groups. Other features include a written solo for 2nd trumpet with the lead trumpet range to written A above the staff. This Basie classic belongs in every jazz library! Highly recommended! Optional expanded instrumentation. 10071900 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . 52.00 Sing, Sing, Sing—Louis Prima/trans. Mike Lewis. Here it is...perhaps the most recognizable swing tune of all time! This incredible transcription is as close as you're going to come to the original (which included clarinet and less than a full compliment of brass). This chart is scored for a standard 5 saxes, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones and rhythm, but aside from that, it is the original as played by Benny Goodman. Every lick is there, including all the Gene Krupa drum breaks! This chart is a must for every big band's library! 2411486 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . 62.00 Switch in Time—Sammy Nestico. Sammy Nestico wrote this classic chart for the Count Basie Orchestra and it was recorded on the album Basie - Straight Ahead. It's a fun chart and it gets our highest recommendation! 10513911 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . 52.00 Throttle Up!—Chris Sharp. This barnburner will get your blood pumping! Built on the chord changes to the jazz standard Cherokee (even in the same key) and showing off the technical chops of your sax section, this piece offers aspiring improvisers the chance to gain the faculty to play the standard itself. It features solo changes for tenor sax. The lead trumpet plays a high C, and lead trombone plays a G. 11515313 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . 75.00 Work Song—Nat Adderley/arr. Erik Morales. Wow! If Nat Adderley could hear this chart on his iconic jazz standard, he would be pleased! The first statement stays very close to the original, which is a good thing. The solos are for written or improvised alto and trumpet, and the solo backgrounds are simply wonderful. This swinger plays well at about 176 bmp, has excellent full- ensemble passages, a bari sax and rhythm section break before the last chorus, an exciting shout chorus, and great development. This chart has it all! Our highest recommendation! 10513905 Jazz Ensemble . . . . . . . . . . . . . 54.00 M E D I U M - A D VA N C E D & A D VA N C E D Cold Peanut Butter—Scott Hall.
