A Blessing—Michael Helman. Written in
honor of his grandsons, this delicate original
has a heartfelt melody reminiscent of a classic
ballad. Flowing accompanimental lines support
the melody played first on bells, then on chimes
in the middle section which then builds before
returning to the opening material. Sweetly
sentimental, this original will be a special
moment in either worship or concert. Optional
3-5 octave handchimes.

Chorale and Variations on "Erhalt uns,
Herr"—arr. John A. Behnke. The tune
ERHALT
UNS, HERR,
commonly associated with Lord,
Keep Us Steadfast in Your Word; The Glory
of These Forty Days and several other texts,
is here set as a chorale arrangement with two
variations. The first variation has the melody in
the lower bells with an eighth- and quarter-note
motive weaving in and out of the upper bells.
The second variation modulates to E minor
and is grand and slow-moving. The ending
builds with shakes to a final fortissimo. This
piece works well as service music or as an
introduction to the hymn.

Dona Nobis Pacem—arr. Karen L. Buckwalter.
One of the most familiar rounds, Dona Nobis
Pacem (Grant Us Peace) intertwines three
melodies into a beautiful, peaceful work. As is
common in the choral world, this arrangement
presents the three melodies separately, then
ties them all together towards the end. The use
of handchimes (optional two octaves) helps to
highlight the different melodies.

God of Grace and God of Glory—arr. Cathy
Moklebust. This lively arrangement of
CWM
RHONDDA
is filled with exciting rhythms and
techniques. Malleted bass patterns in 7/8
meter create an intriguing accompaniment
underneath the hymn tune. A slower section
follows with handchimes in a flowing style and
a lyrical treatment of the tune with handbells
in the treble. The upper treble bells switch to
handchimes before a return to the 7/8 rhythms
and an uplifting, joyous conclusion. This
arrangement is a delight and is appropriate for
most any time of year for worship, concert, or
festival use.

How Great Thou Art (O STORE GUD)—arr. Pam
Gervais & Linda Boatright. Originally a stunning
piano arrangement, this setting of a favorite
hymn has been beautifully transcribed for
handbells. It begins quietly and reflectively with
just hints of the melody rung on handchimes.
A lovely key change transitions to handbells
featuring rich, somewhat unexpected chords,
tempo changes, and dynamics. The addition of
bass chimes in the 2's underlays most of this
arrangement, and both bells and chimes are
fully involved in the glorious last verse. Lyrical
and expressive musical phrases will make this
a favorite in your group's repertoire.

I Love to Tell the Story—arr. Robert Lau/
transcribed for handbells by Shawn Gingrich.
Known for his arrangements of American
hymn tunes, Robert Lau's setting of I Love
to Tell the Story is beautifully transcribed for
handbells. Mostly rung with LV passages and
perfectly-placed shakes, the setting begins
with sonorous singing bells and LV bells in the
treble supporting handchimes ringing the verse,
which then moves to bells ringing the chorus. A
legato and introspective second verse moves
to a glorious and thrilling final chorus. Those
familiar with the words of this hymn are sure to
be silently singing along with this setting, as it
remains true to the original hymn.

spiritual. Great for a light moment in worship
or concert.

Illumina (Word of God, Light Our Way)—
Cathy Moklebust. This original composition
opens with a plainchant played on optional
handchimes (2 octaves) accompanied by
random ringing, then is followed by a richly
harmonized statement of the main theme.
A more active section follows with fluid LV
sixteenth-note patterns accompanying a
variation of the theme. A return to the opening
plainchant with random ringing concludes
this prayerful composition. Referencing
Psalm 119:105-108, the words "light our
way" are illustrated in the form of two eighth
notes and a quarter note, and the complete
text is included above the music to provide
creative reference for ringers. Editions
are compatible.
