Sarah Quartel.
This fresh take on a familiar 15th-century Christmas text artfully utilizes
dotted rhythms in 6/8 meter to create a lilting feel, and the memorable
melody for the carol text passes through each of the voice parts. The

for handbells, percussion, or the chime stop on the organ, while the
unison version is accessibly set with a piano accompaniment.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace
A Silent Night
Franz Gruber/arr. Richard A. Nichols.
A serene accompaniment figure reminiscent of falling snow opens this
setting. As the upper voices disappear with the first verse, the lower
voices enter above a slightly more stirring accompaniment pattern. The
third verse opens the heavens to reveal radiant beams before returning
us to the tranquil opening night scene. The optional string orchestra
adds depth and texture to the backdrop.
