Antoinette (March and Two-Step)—
Scott Joplin/arr. Paul W. Allen.
This Joplin "March and Two-Step" is mostly rung
and malleted; it should not be played so fast that it
feels hurried nor should it go so slowly that it loses
its swing. There are several repeats and a trio as
is the style in many of Joplin's works. Here is a
great addition to your concert repertoire!

Awakening—Ina Young.
Pele, "She who shapes the sacred land," is the
Hawaiian goddess of fire and volcanoes. Small
towns and entire forests have been wiped out
by Pele's passionate, unpredictable, and volatile
temper. This edition attempts to re-create the June
7, 2023 eruption of the volcano Kilauea, creating a
spectacle that intertwined both beauty and fear.

Dona Nobis Pacem—
arr. Karen L. Buckwalter.
One of the most familiar rounds, Dona Nobis
Pacem (Grant Us Peace) intertwines three
melodies into a beautiful, peaceful work. As is
common in the choral world, this arrangement
presents the three melodies separately, then
ties them all together towards the end. The use
of handchimes (optional two octaves) helps to
highlight the different melodies.

Embrace the Day—Jason W. Krug.
This original composition is catchy and upbeat.
A syncopated rhythmic ostinato pattern begins the
piece, which is then carried throughout in every
voice. Bass mallets add their energy to make this
a fun festival selection.

Fais de Beau Reve (Sweet Dreams)—
Julie Stitt. Subtitled Sweet Dreams, this
original composition is sweet yet elegant and

Hashivenu
("Rise Up and Sing," a song of
resilience)—arr. Brenda E. Austin.
A song of resilience, this traditional Israeli
folk song begins with a mournful setting on
handchimes that is lovely, gentle, and flowing.
The character of the piece changes as it moves
into an up-tempo section with malleted rhythmic
bass supporting the melody as it drives to the end.
The arrangement is fresh and inspiring and will
make a great concert piece! Optional 2-3 or 3-5
octave handchimes. Both editions are compatible.

Lush, flowing lines and haunting melodies make
this piece a stunning addition to the handbell

moves "into the light" with beautiful melodies that

original tune was written for the 21st International
Handbell Symposium in Hamamatsu, Japan.

Transit Time—Kurt Meyer.
Inspired by the increase in packages delivered to
homes in the past few years, this clever original
depicts the journey a package makes from one
transit point to another before finally arriving at its
destination. Energetic and with a pace driven by
a mostly malleted bass line, listen as the package
moves to different facilities, then gets processed
(depicted by lovely legato sections,) before moving
on to the next. The melody is a little motif that
crawls up a step in each iteration as the energy
moves forward. Use as a novelty piece to engage
your ringers and entertain your audiences!

The Turtle Dove
(The Beloved's Promise)—arr. Billy Brandt.
This lovely English folk song tells a story of love,
longing, and nostalgia. Bells, handchimes, and
flute all share the melody in this gentle setting, and
the interplay is lovely. The alternate title relates to
Psalm 74, making it a charming piece for general
worship, but the overall feeling of the piece will
also make this a perfect Lenten offering.

The Winter Began Softly—Sandra Eithun.
This original work for handbells paints a serene
picture of a winter landscape blanketed in
lightly-falling snow. The singing bell and lyrical
passages evoke the beauty and quietude of the
season. Cascading lines mimic the gentle fall of
snowflakes capturing the magic of a walk through
the woods on a snowy day. Touching on themes
of nostalgia, wonder or the passage of time, this
piece is ideal for any time of reflection.
