MA 75.00 Green Road (Fantasy on an Irish Folk Melody)—arr. Davide Pedrazzini. This fantasy is based on Irish folk song The Road to Lisdoonvarna. The theme depicts a journey through green Ireland. The melody is broken, dilated, and superimposed on itself as a sort of bimodality. A great exercise in 6/8 and 9/8. meter. Surprisingly, sometimes there is also a fun extra-instrumental element. 11566685 String Orchestra . . . . . .M 58.00 Irish Junkyard Jam—Brian Balmages. Featuring string quartet and orchestra, this tour de force follows a few straggling Irish musicians (the quartet) who find themselves in a junkyard picking up scrap instruments. As the quartet begins to find their groove, they are joined by the rest of the orchestra and the party is on! While not based on a specific folk song, the piece draws on elements ranging from a traditional pub band to Irish step dance. Fun, and playable on acoustic or electric instruments. 10996001 String Orchestra . . . . MA 70.00 La Bella Cubana—José White/arr. Robert Debbaut. In addition to numerous etudes and a virtuosic violin concerto, violinist Joseph (José) White Lafitte composed this habanera for two violins, La Bella Cubana. In this string orchestra arrangement of a habanera originally composed for two violins, the lyrical melodic solos are spread throughout the orchestra. Traditional Cuban dance rhythms in the middle theme capture the vibrant joy of the original work. 11500301 String Orchestra . . . . . .M 60.00 La Cascara—Jeremy Woolstenhulme. This work is on fire from the opening measure to its final ending. Rhythmically complex, it includes some two against three patterns and meter changes as well as position work in all sections. Add some sizzle to your next concert with some Bollywood style! Maharaja combines rhythms and motifs from Indian music with exciting melodies. Slurred pizzicato imitates the sound of tabla drums while finger snaps and triplet flourishes add to the South Asian flavor.
