6-Note Santa—Joseph Compello. This version
of Jolly Old Saint Nicholas is perfect for your
beginning band's first winter or holiday concert.
The entire composition is based on the first
six notes of the concert B-flat scale, and every
instrument gets a chance to play the melody.
The only instrument that plays eighth notes is the
snare drum, so rhythmic demands are kept to a
minimum to ensure student success. Try this for a
jolly good time!

Angels We Have Heard on High—arr. Michael
Story. This arrangement of the popular French
Christmas carol has been written with young
students in mind. It's scored using just the first few
notes presented in most beginning band methods,
has only quarter-, half-, and whole-note rhythms in
the winds, and is without a written key signature.
Your percussionists will have opportunities for
playing, and your lows will even get some time on
the melody!

Bad Elf!—arr. Bryce Newton. A humorous and
creative holiday selection combining Up on the
Housetop and Good King Wenceslas. Using the
first six notes introduced in most method books,
this will be an educational and fun piece for your
musicians' first holiday performance. The limited
instrumentation works well for many ensembles.
Festive and entertaining!

Blizzard's Fury—Randall Standridge. Looking
for the perfect winter piece for your young
musicians? Look no further than this thrilling
work. Illustrating the raw power of winter storms,
it uses minor harmonies, driving rhythms, and
aggressive percussion within a limited range
to make this an exciting yet accessible work
for younger ensembles. Also serving as an
introduction to trill techniques, this secular
winter work will make a great addition to your
next winter or festival concert!

Cha Cha Christmas—Larry Clark. Where does
Santa spend his vacations away from the North
Pole? Well, the answer to this much-debated
mystery just might be Cuba! This fun compilation
takes three Christmas favorites - Jolly Old St.
Nicholas; Angels We Have Heard on High and
Jingle Bells - and gives them a little Latin flavor.
A fun and lighthearted addition to your elementary
band's holiday program.

further for the perfect holiday concert opener for
your beginning band's very first performance.

The First Fallen Snow—Randall Standridge.
This gentle work for beginning band uses the first
six notes learned to create a calm portrait of a
winter landscape. Images of snowflakes drifting
to the ground on a cold winter night serve as the
inspiration for the lyrical melodies and moving
harmonies that will challenge and delight your
young players. Perfect for a first winter concert or
any time when beauty is called for.

First Holiday Fanfare (Angels We Have Heard
on High/Deck the Halls)—arr. Matthew R.
Putnam. The holiday season is a time of joy,
merriment, excitement, and traditions. One
such tradition is the holiday band concert,
which is often the debut performance of young
musicians. This nice addition to the young band
holiday repertoire is a great way to start that very
important first concert.
