This unabridged arrangement remains very true to the original while making this beautiful music playable by string orchestra. The key has been changed from B minor to E minor so all parts remain in first position. This is a great piece for teaching legato and tremolo bowing, expressive phrasing, triplet rhythms, accelerando and ritardando. A stirring arrangement! 10305939 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . . 49.00 Symphony Concertante No. 1 (Allegro)— Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges/arr. Jim Palmer. This is a beautiful example of a classical work from an underrepresented composer. Detailed dynamics, bowings, and fingerings allow students to experience the classical style. Originally written for two solo violins and string orchestra, this arrangement provides an opportunity for the standard string orchestra to experience this work. The rhythmic drive makes it an excellent opener or closer for any festival or concert. (3:45) 11568662 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . . 65.00 M E D I U M The Abduction from the Seraglio (Overture)— W.A. Mozart/arr. Jamin Hoffman. From the comic opera filled with pirates, Turkish princes, kidnapping and daring rescues, Mozart's The Abduction from the Seraglio is the piece of music that generated the (possibly fictional) "too many notes" story. It is written in the Turkish "janissary" style, a style of music that fascinated Europe at the time. In this arrangement, the right hand of the piano is frequently written 8va to help re-create the piccolo that figured prominently in the original. 10185412 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 Adoration—Florence B. Price/arr. Steve Olson. Originally composed for organ by African- American composer Florence B. Price in 1951. With its slow, expressive melodies, this piece is a great opportunity for younger orchestras to work on bow distribution and vibrato. All parts except for a small section for the basses are playable in first position, making it an excellent transition piece for shifting exercises. The arrangement captures the beauty and richness of the original composition. 11522067 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . . 60.00 Allegro Presto from Symphony No. 2—Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges/arr. Deborah Baker Monday. Spotlight one of the first known classical composers of African ancestry with this incredible arrangement showcasing the music of Bologne, a Black contemporary of Mozart. Developing string players will be introduced to classical-style playing. Upper strings reinforce half position while cellists reinforce extensions. An outstanding choice! 11349012 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 Armonico (From Op. 3, No. 10)—Antonio Vivaldi/ arr. Todd Parrish. This faithful arrangement comes from Vivaldi's first set of published concertos. Capturing the spirit of the original, the iconic first movement displays the power and focus that helped this piece stand out among other works of the same age. A rare and inspired adaptation. 11511798 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . . 65.00 The Castle Walk Rag—James Reese Europe & Ford T. Dabney/arr. Rick Webb. The original is considered one of Europe's most influential recordings and was added to the Library of Congress National Recording Registry in 2004. The song is a fusion of ragtime and march styles, while also creatively inserting bluesy modulations between major and minor keys. 11570778 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . . 50.00 Danse (from "African Suite")—Samuel Coleridge-Taylor/arr. Kirk Moss. The artistic turning point of English composer Samuel Coleridge- Taylor's career happened in his twenties when he met the African-American poet Paul Laurence Dunbar. Dunbar influenced the young composer to concentrate on his African heritage. Originally composed for piano as the final movement of "African Suite," Danse begins with two introductory chords followed by energetic swinging rhythms and repeated angular melodies. Students will love the moods in this festive overture, evocative of later Broadway musicals. 11511805 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . . 65.00 Danse Macabre—Camille Saint-Saens/arr. Carrie Lane Gruselle. The clock strikes midnight, a ghostly fiddler plays eerie tones, and skeletons dance until the rooster crows at dawn. Perfect for Halloween or as a change of pace for any time of year! 10512560 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . . 60.00 Fantasia on Greensleeves (What Child Is This?)—Ralph Vaughan Williams/arr. Deborah Baker Monday. Scored for strings, harp (keyboard) and two violin soloists, this ethereal setting retains the form and texture of the original while bringing it to a student-friendly level. Melodic material is passed effortlessly from one section to another, and only the first violin solo requires third position work. A rich setting of a classic masterwork. 10092446 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . . 49.00 Hungarian Dance No. 5—Johannes Brahms/ arr. Merle J. Isaac. Great fun and a whole lot more! This exciting, familiar work will give new life to your rehearsals and will be a standout at any concert. Enjoy! 2115814 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . . 65.00 March of the Marionette—Charles Gounod/arr. Caryn Wiegand Neidhold. This familiar sneaky theme was originally composed for solo piano by French composer Charles Gounod in 1872 as a bit of a joke about a particular music critic. The mysterious and foreboding motif has since been used in film and TV, most notably as the theme for the show Alfred Hitchcock Presents. This string orchestra arrangement skillfully weaves the ominous melody into all sections, retaining the original D minor key with the traditional change to the parallel D major in the middle. Players will experience various accidentals in 6/8 meter, with minimal shifting in first violin and cello. With the ghostly whimsy of a danse macabre, this scary classic is perfect for your fall or Halloween concert! 11559092 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . . 70.00 Marche Slav—P.I. Tchaikovsky/arr. Carrie Lane Gruselle. Tchaikovsky's most famous march exemplifies the spirit of 19th century nationalism as it was growing in Europe. This exceptional arrangement set in A minor (a more comfortable key than the original Bb minor) has all the elements of the original and lets your orchestra shine without the need of winds and percussion. A dramatic and memorable addition to any concert! 10047947 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . . 55.00 Nimrod—Edward Elgar/arr. Mitchell Bender. This ninth variation from Elgar's "Enigma Variations" is the most played and most beautiful of the variations. Due to its overwhelming expressive quality, it has become England's counterpart to Adagio for Strings, being played when music of great emotion and dignity is called for in that country. This fine arrangement moves the key center from Eb to the more string-friendly D. With some very nice divisi writing, this makes an ideal choice for any string orchestra, and especially nice for larger or combined string orchestras. 2471555 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . . 70.00 Pavane for a Dead Princess—Maurice Ravel/arr. Jeremy Woolstenhulme. This absolutely stunning arrangement of one of Ravel's most beautiful works gives advanced string orchestras the opportunity to perform with maturity and elegance. It features particularly exquisite moments for solo violin. A required piano part is also included. 11563663 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . . 70.00 Three Norwegian Dances—Halfdan Kjerulf/ arr. Katie O'Hara LaBrie. This fantastic mini- suite features the music of Halfdan Kjerulf, a predecessor of and influence on Edvard Grieg. The work includes the lively and animated Intermezzo, the lyrical Spring Dance with a waltz-like quality, and the fiery Brureslatt. Incredible music that engages all sections of the orchestra! (5:00) 11568678 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . . 75.00 Waltz No. 2—Dimitri Shostakovich/arr. Paul Lavender. Shostakovich's waltz has become an international icon, made popular by artists like Andre Rieu and heard prominently in Stanley Kubrick's final film, "Eyes Wide Shut." Taken from Shostakovich's "Suite for Variety Orchestra," Paul Lavender's skillful adaptation is ideally suited to both serious and light programming. 10081471 String Orchestra . . . . . . . . . . . . . 60.00 Buy with confidence!
